A Guide to the CCTV System

In an increasingly metropolitan world, it is becoming more and more necessary to install sophisticated security systems to avoid being the victim of crime. One security system available is a CCTV system.

A simple explanation of a CCTV camera system would be that it is a closed circuit television which transmits a signal to a particular monitor. The system does not send a signal openly, but only to the specific monitors it is tuned to. Video feeds can either be viewed live or recorded and is easily set up, whether for your home or work.

CCTV cameras are also be placed in places like malls, airports, railways stations or restaurants. Being able to zoom and capture images that can then be distributed to authorities make these systems excellent at deterring crime. When people are aware that they are being watched and can be quickly brought to justice should they do something illegal, they are much less likely to break the law, therefore cameras are extremely useful to reducing crime.

Another advantage of having a CCTV camera up is that it can be used to keep an eye on employees. Monitoring your employees while in another area of the store or at home is another use of CCTV cameras.

There is no need to have someone sitting around the clock watching the monitors as the security feeds can be recorded and reviewed later if required. Since cameras can cover more area than a security guard, these units are more cost effective and can allow for reduced manpower.

Catching thieves in the act is what hidden security cameras do best. Cameras can be placed anywhere in your business allowing managers and security personnel to monitor for thefts. It also becomes easier to prosecute shoplifters since there is video footage available showing them stealing from the store.

A CCTV camera can also be used around the house to keep an eye on the grounds and gate to ensure no one is entering your house without permission. Placing these cameras at gates or other entry points is common, this way the operator can see who wants to gain access to their business or residence. Therefore these also provide increased home security.

Many feel that technology is too invasive, however, the advantages provided by these systems outweigh negative criticism. People have protested against the use of hidden cameras in public areas, however these cameras are useful in catching vandals who could damage public property.

Everyone from homeowners to businesspeople can benefit for the advantages of CCTV cameras. Many different departments of the government also use these to try and aid in catching criminals, providing information and keeping law and order in cities. They are an excellent way to increase security both in homes and public places without having to use a lot more human resources.
