Street dance describes quite another of dance styles, but the term is popularly used in London and the UK. What street dance classes can you find in London?

By Kevin Shwe

It seems that street dance is becoming more and more popular in the UK. Lots of dance styles have had their turn in the spotlight over the years and it looks like it is the turn of street dance at the moment.

But what exactly is street dance? And what can you expect to learn in a street dance class in London? The London scene is very different to many other countries and it’’s worth exploring.

Street dance classes often teach street dance routines which loosely take dance moves from a variety of dance styles which may include hip-hop dance, locking, popping, street jazz and jazz amongst others. It can also include acrobatics when danced in dance troupes and can fuse with other styles very different from street dance such as contemporary too.

In fact looking at the term more closely, ‘’street dance'’ is more an umbrella term encompassing all these dance styles and many more. Different people have different opinions on what constitutes street dance. For example some people would also put dance styles such as the breakin'’ and the crip walk under the street dance categories whilst others would not.

So if you see a dance class advertised as street dance you can expect to learn dance routines which are very similar to hip-hop dance and including elements of the other styles, but not necessarily to hip-hop music. Whereas most of the time a hip-hop dance class will have routines to hip-hop or R&B music for the most part.

There are other clues for what you might expect form a street dance class in London. Sometimes ‘’street'’ will be followed by another name. For example ‘’street jazz'’ would combine street and jazz, ‘’street locking'’ would be lockin'’ and ‘’street urban'’ would be similar to hip hop dance or urban dance.

The term ‘’street dance'’ is popularly used in the UK and a number of other countries. So if you decide that you want to start going to some street dance classes it’’s helpful to know what style of street dance you want to learn.

Dance styles which might fall under the street dance category such as popping, locking and hip-hop dance will often have dance classes which are just called by their names instead of ‘’street'’ something.

If in doubt about a street dance class in London, take a class so you can find out whether it’’s general routines you'’ll be learning or a specific street dance style. Many times you'’ll find you'’ll enjoy a dance style that you weren'’t even planning to learn!

Do you want to be a backing dancer for your favourite artists? Are you only allowed to dance for 1 artist or for all your favourite bands and singers?

By Ryan Heddik

Backing dancing is one of the most exclusive career paths for a dancer to go down. Even if you'’re a dancer whose main interest is theatre, who wouldn'’t say yes to dancing for Justin Timberlake? Well-paid, high-profile and all your friends will probably recognise you on TV.

But what happens when you get offered the role of backing dancer and it’’s not your favourite artist? Are you confined only to dancing for one artist? Luckily the answer is no.

You can dance for as many different clients and artists that you want and usually they won'’t mind. If anything it will make your CV look more impressive if you'’ve previously done backing dancing and may even make it easier to dance with your favourite bands.

Most people have loads of different artists and groups on their Ipod or Cd collections. Perhaps too many even to be able to name a favourite. So it’’s great that you have permission to dance for lots of them.

There are a few things however you may want to consider. For example if you know that a certain artist has a rival artist (think Britney Spears vs Christina Aguilera) then it might be harder to dance for your favourite artist if you'’ve already danced for their rival.

The fact is that production companies usually go to the same couple of agencies for their dancers so naturally some dancers will have worked for several music artists. It won'’t come as a surprise to them although sometimes they just want fresh faces which haven'’t worked with too many artists.

Sometimes dancers can work for one artist and then work for another rival artist. It happens because dancers are not always at the forefront and unless heavily featured they'’re not that easily recognisable. After all every time they cast for dancers they want the best dancers for the job.

The artists or band members aren'’t always in the decision-making process for the dancers, although sometimes they are. Sometimes the whole image and production team may be involved in the decision to make sure that the dancer’’s style of dancing and image will compliment their artists. It'’ll sometimes be video footage they study of the auditions and you won'’t even know the artists are helping pick the dancers.

So take a look through your music collection, decide which artists you want to work with and starting plotting for your success. But remember to spend as much time practising your actual dancing skills rather than deciding which artists are your favourites!

Ryan Heddik has enjoyed a successful dance career dancing on TV numerous times and is the author of the groundbreaking e-book ‘’Dance In A Pop Video.'’ The book teaches aspiring dancers the exact process they can follow to find work in music videos with tried and tested principles that actually work.

By Amy Nutt

When you take a look around the world, there are a number of places that still do not speak English. This is likely to continue for some time as well over half of the world’’s population lives within areas that do not have heavy English-speaking populations. For that reason, it can sometimes be difficult to learn how to speak fluent English simply because there is no one around you that speaks the language. Textbooks and seminars can only take you so far in your knowledge of English, but at some point you actually have to start speaking the language on a regular basis in order to attain mastery in the language.

This can be a problem in areas of the world that do not have that many English-speaking people and for that reason you need to come up with innovative ways to improve your pronunciation of the English language in spite of the lack of English people with which to chat. This does require some critical thinking and unorthodox ways of doing things, but there are a few ways in which you can still get it done. Some suggestions are listed below.

Media

The first place that you should go is the English-speaking media, starting with agencies that are specifically broadcasting news. Major international news agencies such as CNN and BBC broadcast themselves into all of the different corners of the world and these agencies only employ people with a completely fluent grasp of the English language. For this reason, watching such news agencies will allow you to slowly grasp the pronunciation of specific words in English and that in turn will allow you to truly grasp the language. You do not have to chat back and forth with someone to learn how to pronounce English words properly, you just need to have them pronounced properly for you to hear.

If news agencies aren'’t your cup of tea, then the next step would be to take a look at sources of entertainment that come out of the English-speaking world and circulate around the globe. Movies from Hollywood are an excellent example as they tend to be very popular around the world and they often come with English that is spoken very well. You just have to be careful to avoid movies in which the actors are purposely speaking in rough accents with poor language and you should still be able to get a lot of help towards improving your English pronunciation despite living in a country without many native English speakers.

The Internet

The internet tends to be the answer to a number of different questions nowadays and it is definitely the answer to learning a language when nobody around you speaks that language. The internet allows you to download pronunciation guides that were uploaded at the other end of the world and it also allows you to conference with other people and learn English by talking to them. You can learn how to speak English through telephone conversations with the other side of the world and you can also learn how to read and write English by having instant message or e-mail conversations with those same people.

If you are looking for an easy way to perfect your English pronunciation, it is most definitely online learning. Online learning will give you access to methods of learning the language you would never in a million years have thought possible in a non-English area of the world. It will speed up the learning process and ensure that you learn the language and its pronunciation within a reasonable amount of time.

Looking how to get into the world of translation, their role and what to expect in this field.

By Anna Stenning

Becoming a translator is both a demanding and can often be a lucrative job if approached in the right way. This is one of the many jobs that attract the attention of high paying retail companies and manufacturers looking for simple translations of various products such as instruction manuals, leaflets, booklets etc. Often translators would need to travel with the business partners for effective negotiating, meetings, guidance or even translate presentations.

A translation company can comprise of agents delegating work to candidates suitable within the field and who have the desired language needed for the business organisation. Or some translators may set up their own freelance company focussing on translating using one language. People wanting to become translators will need to prepare themselves on communicating with agencies, clients and business colleagues a lot of the time especially if they are working towards deadlines.

Many translators rely on receiving information from their agents, whether it is work that can be completed over a period or needs to be completed urgently for the next day. Some are hired within a company for international correspondence; these can be difficult to find and would require other skills related to the business world.

However, each translator has full control over the amount of work they receive from the translation company. Each translator works at their own pace, therefore, they have their set way of tackling each assignment without supervision. Furthermore, translators are able to discuss with the agent about the content information they have been given, for example if the assignment is not clear and the complete package has not been sent to them they are well within their rights to delay the deadline or warn the client that they will have to expect the deadline to be revised.

Working for a translation company means that you will need to pay close attention to working with the agents on meeting to deadlines. If there is a piece of assignment that is handwritten and is illegible, then the best thing you can do is to grin and bear it. Do your best to translate the piece, with the help of others and always keep the agent or client informed about the issues. There is nothing worse than handing in a piece of translated text back to the client or agent, without any prior communication or contact and passed the deadline date.

Some translators tend to run their own translation company or work freelance; therefore they are their own boss and will need to be in close contact with clients. Some translators, as mentioned before, are required to travel with their clients depending upon the nature of the work. It is possible to find work that requires oral translation and not necessarily text work, then you will need to be confident with communicating with people on a technical or business level. You will be expected to show as much enthusiasm and confidence with delivering to important business partners, and gain some knowledge in the subject at hand.

Many translators will find writing for instructional pieces in specified fields as difficult. This is why it is a good idea to keep a glossary of technical terminologies for each client, so you can refer back to this when you receive more work from them. Certain pieces will appear to be written badly. As a translator it is not your job to re-write the piece but to translate it only. Therefore, your direct translation will be a badly written piece. This works in the same way as if it were the other way round.

The idea is not to edit or improve the copy. Never feel obligated to improve one’’s copy but stick to translating it as it has been written. It would however, be a good idea to contact the client about a completely illegible piece which is incomprehensible and difficult to translate. This way you can make clear on how you intend to work with it and whether you will have the work completed by the due date.

It is not as simple as translating then handing in the work. A good translator will receive more work if they are meticulous with the work they provide, the work they have completed and the quality of their work. It is always a good idea to produce something which is free from spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, in the style that the client has requested and always on time without fail. There are no excuses, therefore it is a good idea to get into a habit of this from the beginning.

This cutting edge article offers an analysis of contemporary translation services and a comparison of historically significant events linked to translation.

By Shaun Parker

As Thomas Cranmer huddled secretively under flickering candlelight, his life under threat with every creak and passing voice in the street, I wonder if he ever thought, where are translation services when you need them? In all seriousness, Cranmer translating the bible into English was an action that secured both the future legacy of the Church of England and his martyrdom.

This is a testament to the importance that translation services play in our history and continued global evolution. The motivation for keeping the bible in Latin was that it made it inaccessible to the masses, meaning that only the scholastic regime could maintain control, manipulating by fear. This is why he was burnt at the stake for heresy, because he had done as much damage to the stranglehold of Catholicism as Mary did by burning tens of thousands of her own subjects.

Translation services provide us with open channels of communication. This might seem like an obscenely obvious statement however in this day and age, chronic miscommunication is responsible for many avoidable conflicts of interest. Some of the situations are less severe than others at which we can afford to laugh, but others have more serious consequences.

A great example of how translation services can avoid offending people on a mass scale is the fiasco in June with Chinese handbook for Olympic volunteers. The handbook described disabled people as a special group and continued to say that they are unsocial and introspective. It also stated that they can be overprotective of themselves when called crippled. This offensive document was put down to a poor translation and could have been avoided using efficient translation services.

Translation services can build bridges between nations and faiths, as we see by a group of Muslim scholars translating the koran into Gaelic. It has received a warm reception from Scottish Muslims however a spokesperson from the Western Isles which has the highest density of Gaelic speakers, says it is thought not to be worthwhile.

One might say, the inability to communicate similarities between beliefs and cultures is a major cause of conflict, however sometimes whatever language something is said in it takes at least one party who are willing to hear it. Translation services play practical roles in military operations like in Afghanistan where town names are being translated into western figures so that NATO forces can understand place names.

One of the most famous historical military blunders of all time was the sinking of the Mary Rose, the pride of Henry VIIIs fleet. It has been suggested recently that a non-English speaking crew could not understand the orders from the captain which lead to the vessels demise. Translation services are more common now and have been an integral part of army intelligence for centuries.

It is estimated that the US translation services industry is worth some 12 billion dollars per year. In an ever expanding global economy even the smallest of businesses require translation services to compete in a global marketplace. From contracts to sales letters and technical information translation services can open entire markets in a cost effective manner.

A comprehensive examination of the cultural stigma surrounding alternative tattooing.

By Shaun Parker

Professional tattoo supplies is a competitive market segment and synonymous with the tattooing process in contemporary society today. Marking the skin with permanent ink is a tradition 5000 years old however has only in recent years made a move into socially acceptable parts of society.

There are still certain stigmas surrounding tattoos as they are traditionally associated with certain social demographics such as criminals, the military and ideological groups. It was representative in Western culture with the class gap, being associated with the lower classes, thankfully a prejudice that is being lifted to a certain extent.

Advances in professional tattoo supplies and innovative designs displayed by popular culture icons have improved the image of tattoos. They are now considered a more socially acceptable art form however there are still some uses of tattoos that have real stigma around them. These types of tattoos will not be performed in reputable studios with professional tattoo supplies.

Any images that are associated with prison, gang, football violence or extreme ideologies will not be accommodated by reputable tattoo studios. This means that other methods not involving professional tattoo supplies are used to create the tattoo. This includes the stick-and-poke method which is generally associated with the prison tat, or prison tattoo.

This method is performed with ink, a needle and thread. The needle continually pierces the skin with an ink-soaked piece of thread on the tip. The thread keeps the needle continually covered in ink to ensure the level of ink penetrating the skin remains constant. The major issue when not using professional tattoo supplies is one of hygiene, as the equipment is not sterilized correctly and the risk of blood poisoning, infections or blood transmitted diseases such as HIV or Hepatitis.

Tattoos such as tears below the eye are popular prison tattoos create via this method. They are rumoured to represent how many murders the individual has committed. Other tattoos associated with stick-and-poke are gang tattoos, the expression get your ink is associated with affiliating oneself with a gang either in prison or on the street.

Traditional Japanese tattoos are not made with professional tattoo supplies as the west understands it. They are made by hand with a needle and full body tattoos are associated with the Yakuza, otherwise known as the Japanese mafia. Many bathhouses and gyms ban anyone with these tattoos to keep out any unwanted element.

Professional tattoo supplies play an essential role in maintaining hygiene standards in western tattoo culture. The modern machine used was derived from a design by Thomas Edison initially intended for use in engraving. A man named Samuel O'’Reilly adapted the machine in 1891 to administer ink to the skin and the mechanism was based on a rotary system, now professional tattoo supplies used a system based on electromagnets.

The electromagnets drive a group of soldered needles into the skin anywhere between 80 to 150 times per second applying ink which in professional tattoo supplies uses a variable range of needle depth. This has transformed the modern process into a precise art form and professional tattoo supplies have raised the level of hygiene involved.

Want to be a backing dancer for your idols and favourite music artists? Find out how here!

By Ryan Heddik

Many dancer’’s dream is to do be a backing dancer for their favourite music artists and bands. Whether it’’s just to be able to meet them up close and personal or just being able to say you'’re one of Britney Spears'’ dancers!

How is it possible to dance for your favourite artists? Well you could try the luck route. Wade Robson won a competition to meet Michael Jackson as a kid and when Jackson saw his moves he decided that he wanted to do some backing dancing for him. Lucky kid!

But if you'’re down on luck, fear not because there’’s another way! It’’s easy to find the way, whether you'’re picked to be one of the dancers is another matter of course.

The first thing to do is to do some research into your artist. It helps at this point to make sure that this is an artist that actually uses backing dancers - unfortunately if you'’re idols are Pearl Jam you probably won'’t have much of a chance being one of their dancers unless you pull a brilliant sales speech on them and they realise that they really need dancers after all!

You want to go to a popular search engine like Google and type in the artist’’s name and ‘’choreographer.'’ So using Britney Spears as an example you'’d type in ‘’Britney Spears choreographer'’ into the search box and hit search. You should be able to find pages which will have information about which choreographers have worked with Britney Spears.

You'’ll probably come up with the names of quite a few choreographers. To really save time be more specific and get your information in one go. In order to do backing dancing for them you need to find out who the artist’’s choreographers are right now. So type in the name of their current album or recent single release along with ‘’choreographer.'’ Or if that doesn'’t work try replacing ‘’choreographer'’ with ‘’choreography'’ or similar words.

That’’s the first step. Once you know who the choreographers are just do a search for them and find out which agencies they work for. You can do this just by typing the choreographer’’s name and adding ‘’dance agency'’ or ‘’choreographer'’ into the search.

Sometimes you'’ll find they'’re with different agencies and you won'’t know which agency asked them to provide the choreography. But it'’ll probably be one of the top agencies or one that does a lot of TV work if they'’re a well-known artist.

Once you know which agencies they'’re with you need to audition for that agency so you can possibly be sent to any future auditions where that choreographer needs dancers for your favourite artist. So now you know how to give yourself a chance of dancing with your favourite artist.

Don'’t forget to check audition boards as they sometimes hold open auditions or even in some cases auditions to be a backing dancer are posted on the artist/ band’’s website. Keep your eyes peeled!

Quite possibly the most fun and effective way to learn a new language is to completely immerse yourself in the native culture of the language that you are trying to learn.

By Amy Nutt

Quite possibly the most fun and effective way to learn a new language is to completely immerse yourself in the native culture of the language that you are trying to learn. This way you would have first hand experience with the people who regularly speak the language and get to see and feel all of the little nuances that are important to truly becoming fluent in a second language. Constant exposure to a language spoken by natives as you are trying to learn can really help with the learning process, giving you a great feel not only for the words of the new language, but how to say them in different situations.

Unfortunately, the above mentioned scenario isn'’t an option for very many people. Living and learning abroad can be an incredible expense - almost too much in fact, for the average working person who is looking to learn a second language can afford. But that doesn'’t mean that you should give up your dream of becoming fluent in more than just your native tongue. Learning a new language can be done from anywhere. All you need is a good instructor, a good program and the dedication to stick to that program.

Fortunately for those that still have the strong desire to expand their mind and increase their knowledge by learning English as a second language - ESL training online is a fantastic and effective alternative to traveling to learn abroad.

For some people to effectively learn a language they need to have one on one attention with the instructor and with ESL online training you'’ll have just that. You will have an instructor dedicated to one on one communication with you through the entire process of learning English and you'’ll get all that attention right from the comfort of your own home.

You'’ll incur no travel expenses and have the opportunity to learn your new and valuable skill in the most comfortable atmosphere in the world to you - your own home. You can set up your learning space however you see fit to suit your own needs while you are immersing yourself in your new language. You'’ll be able to learn at your own pace, without being held back or bothered by the interruptions of other students who aren'’t progressing at the same level as you are. There will be an atmosphere with no games or hold ups. It will just be you, your instructor and your lessons, ensuring that you get the most knowledge possible each and every time you sit down to learn.

There is no doubt that learning a new language will have many, many benefits for you and for your career; and there is little doubt that the single most valuable and useful language to take on as a second is English. Learning English can make new opportunities available to you at your current job or open the door to you with a bigger and better company and it can dramatically increase your opportunity to learn other things by giving you access to all of the incredible resources out there that are only available to those that can read and understand English.

If you happen to be one of the very few that are lucky enough or wealthy enough to have the opportunity to learn it while staying where it’’s spoken by all fluently than don'’t hesitate to do so, but if you can'’t, that should be no reason to stop your dream of speaking English as your second language - ESL online training is readily available and nearly as good as immersing yourself directly in the culture.

There are many naturally talented dancers out there who don''t know their popping from their jazz dance. Are they able to become dancers on TV too?

By Ryan Heddik

Being a naturally talented dancer has its benefits as well as downfalls. The benefits are that you can of course already dance your own way without needing too much help. The downside is that being naturally gifted stops many dancers from going to dance classes and learning other skills.

Many dance jobs and auditions specify for the dancers to be skilled in particular dance styles whether it’’s commercial dance or breakdance. So if you'’re self taught and learnt all your moves by watching MTV videos can you become a dancer on TV as well?

The answer is yes you can - but you make it 100 times harder for yourself than if you trained in some other dance styles as well. Most dance auditions will teach a dance routine or choreography in a particular dance style. If you'’ve never been to a single dance class in your life you'’re unlikely to pick it up and perform it at the required standard.

The chance you have of dancing on TV will arise mainly from freestyle dance auditions. If an audition has choreography and freestyle they'’d usually expect you to be good at both. However at freestyle only auditions there is no choreography so you'’re free to let loose.

The disadvantage you have over trained dancers at freestyle auditions is that you'’ll be dancing your own way and whoever is judging the audition may not be able to pinpoint your dance style. Many judges like to know what they'’re seeing - if only for their own ego boost!

However if your freestyle is truly amazing and they like you then there is no reason why you cannot get the same parts that trained professional dancers are also auditioning with you for.

If you are a self-taught dancer with aspirations of dancing on TV or in music videos you would be strongly advised to go to a dance college or start training at a dance studio though. By being able to pick up choreographies in different styles and learning the subtleties of each one you'’ll become a better dancer.

If you train at dance classes and dance studios and are able to pick up choreography you of course give yourself many more opportunities. You'’ll be able to attend more auditions which of course means you'’ll have a better chance of getting more jobs.

Also the new moves and skills that you learn in the classes you'’ll be able to incorporate into your freestyle also and make your freestyle even better. So if you just want to try your luck then you can use your current skills, but if you want to make a real go of it start training at your local dance studio!

Contractions are words in the English language that combine two words in one and replace the missing letters with a punctuation mark called an apostrophe. This is one of the lessons you will learn when you take a free English online course.

The instruction is provided in simple terms through dialogues that have at least one contraction in each one. For example, let is a very common contraction in the English language that is composed of two words ?let and us. The ?is omitted and replaced by an apostrophe? to make the shortened form of the word. It is used in both casual and formal conversation.

The verb o be?is one that is commonly used in English. Some of the commonly used contractions are:

* They are ?

* We are ?

* I am ?

* You are ?

* He is ?

* She is ?

Along with learning the contractions, you also learn the proper verb and subject agreement. You never say you is or I are in English. There are negative contractions as well that are covered in other lessons, once you grasp the concept of using contractions. Instead of saying do not, you would say don and instead of saying cannot, you would say can. At the same time it is perfectly acceptable to use the words instead of the contractions, but native English speakers use contractions in their speech and writing on a regular basis.

You can read the conversations and listen to them at the same time. This will give you practice in three important elements of learning English ?listening, reading and speaking. You can use the short dialogues as speaking practice when you read along with the speaker. You can replay them as often as you wish and record yourself reading them to get an idea of how well you can pronounce the words.

Once you master the dialogue section of the lesson, you can advance to the grammar instruction. Here you will find a table of commonly used contractions using singular and plural pronouns in both negative and positive examples. Again you can review this instruction as often as you wish and when you feel comfortable with it, then you can move on to the practice exercises. These exercises are based on the contractions covered in the dialogues and the instruction. You will have to type in the contraction for the words in the parenthesis following the sentence. This is the way English speaking children learn the proper form of the structure in class and the same way you would learn it if you attended classes.

When you complete each exercise, you will receive immediate feedback in the form of a grade and a listing of the correct answers. This feature allows you to review your answers to determine where you made a mistake ?if you had any incorrect answers.

You should not get disheartened when you make mistakes because this is an important feature of learning. Learn from your mistakes and don move on to the test on the structure until you have mastered all the grammar exercises.

When you take an English course on line, you have to start at the beginning just as you would with any English course that will teach you to read, write and speak the language. When searching for a free online course, you have to make sure the course contains the four main components of learning English ?listening, speaking, reading and writing. Therefore you need to make sure the course has an audio component in which the passages are read by native English speakers. Since the course is free, you can easily check out all aspects of iyt to make sure it has everything you need to help you learn the English language.

The audio component should contain conversational and business English. The conversations at the beginning of the course are very short and simple, which is what you need to get started. These beginning conversations start with teaching you how to introduce yourself to others and how to ask for directions. The conversations gradually increase in difficulty as the structures you learn become more difficult.

As part of an online course, you also need to learn all the facets of English grammar so that you can speak and write the language correctly. This includes learning the parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverb, etc., their purpose in different sentences and how to use them correctly. Punctuation is part of the course, as is the tense of verbs and the types of sentences.

Each lesson in the course should consist of a set in instructions that explain what the structure is and examples of how to use it. While you can read these instructions, you also need to be able to practice what you have learned. This is why you should look for a course that has pages of practice exercises and immediate feedback on how well you did so that you know if you should review the lesson on move on to the next one. By studying the structures of English grammar in this way, you now only learn how to write the language, but this helps you with your speaking and writing.

You can usually handle the speaking part of such a course on your own. Listen to the speaker reading the passage several times and then play the passage again as you read along with it. Record yourself reading the passage on your own and then play it back to compare it with the speaker. Make sure you complete the comprehension exercises at the end of these passages because this will help you understand the language when you read and listen to others.

You do have to discipline yourself when you take an online course in English. This is because you are studying on your own at home, so you have to make sure you do set a time for yourself, the same as you would if you were attending class. This means setting a time when you are going to study so you should inform your friends and family that you will be unavailable at this time. The benefit of studying English in this way is that you can do so at any time unlike having to stick to a schedule during the day or early eveming.

The advantages of taking free English courses online are many. You can use these courses to complement the instruction you receive or start learning English on your own time. This is a great chance for many people to receive instruction in English when they are unable to leave their home country to live and study in an English-speaking one. When you take an online course, you don have to pay any tuition costs or make changes to your work schedule so that you can attend actual classes. As long as you have a computer and an Internet connection, you can take your lessons at any time of the day or night and set your own schedule.

Don be misled into thinking that by taking an online course you will be studying alone and will not be able to interact with English speakers or with others that are learning English just like you. The online sites have chat lines where you can talk with other students and get answers to any questions that you may have from native English speakers. Therefore you have the interaction you need and it is very similar to being immersed in the language because when you are online doing the lessons, you are immersed in English all the time.

The lessons are all introduced by dialogues that use the structure being explained in the lesson. You can listen to the dialogues being read as you read along with the print on the screen. The main problem that most language learners have is that they always try to translate the English into their own language first. This is perfectly normal for beginners and is the reason that one of the resources commonly found on an English language learning site is a dictionary into which you can type and word and have it translated into your own language. After you get used to the main vocabulary, you will gradually start to think in English and won have to use this resource very often.

All of the lessons contain all four components of learning English. You listen to the dialogues and read along with them. You read and listen to the instructions about each structure of grammar and then you get an opportunity to write the language when you complete the practice exercises.

The audio component of an online course allows you to pick and choose which topics you want to hear and read. There is a listening center in which you can hear various passages on a variety of topics. Reading books in English is an important part of learning the language, but if you are studying from home in your own country, you may have great difficulty finding these books. That is why the online sites have a literature library where you can choose to read some books, such as Aesop Fables, Junior Classics or folk tales from all over the world. You can also read essays in English from which you can gain valuable information on how to write your own essays, if you are studying for the TOFEL exam for English proficiency.

If you can'’t afford the tuition for an English course at a college or you can'’t really move to an English speaking country, why not take a free online course. English courses are available online free of charge and you get all the necessary instruction you need to speak and write in proper English. The audio course is free and consists of passages that start off really simple and gradually progress to more challenging pieces, all of which are read by native English speakers.

Listening to English speakers is an essential part of learning the language. You pick up the proper pronunciation of the words and the various stresses that are placed on words to accentuate a certain phrase or to designate a sentence as a question. Along with listening to the passages and practicing reading them on your own, there are comprehension exercises for you to complete to make sure you understand the message of the passage. Three are practical topics that you would use in everyday conversations, passages related to business and passages related to attending a university.

When you register for such a free course, you can choose where to begin depending on your current level of proficiency in the English language. For example, if you already have the basics of the language, you can choose to start at the beginning to refresh your knowledge and proceed through this section quite quickly to advance to Elementary, Pre-Intermediate and Upper Intermediate levels. Beginners should always start with the initial section even though many adults may find it very simple. The fact is that in order to learn English well, you have to start learning it as English children do. The instruction is geared for adults, but there are many online sites that have instruction for children as well.

Games are an important way of learning the language. It is essential that you enjoy the learning so that you will stick with it and not become frustrated. The instructional games offered as part of the free English courses are designed to help you have fun and learn at the same time. Flash games, for example, expose you to thousands of English words by showing you the picture associated with the word and then the word. The games are categorized, such as animals, occupations, school subjects, etc. Each game starts with a series of cards turned face down. You have to click on a card to reveal a picture and a word and then you have to find a matching picture in the remaining cards.

Each set of instructions is followed by a set of exercises that give you practice in using the English language structure that you studied. If you wish you can return to the instructions as many times as you wish and you can take notes while you are learning as well. As soon as you complete each online exercise, you will get immediate feedback on how well you did. This enables you to go back and see where you went wrong so you can correct your mistakes.

If you already have some knowledge of speaking, reading and writing English, a free online course offers you a wonderful way of improving English at no cost to you. You can browse through the pages of the site to select areas in which you want to improve, such as in the many lessons offered in the structures of English grammar. These lessons are categorized from beginning levels to advanced, which means you can start anywhere and take the lessons in any order that suits your needs.

If you want to improve your ability to read English, choose some of the literature resources on the site that actually include some of the works of Shakespeare and the Junior classics. The classics include such stories as tales from many countries of the world, including Tales of the American Indians. This feature is particularly advantageous if you want to improve your English but live in a country where it is very difficult to get books printed in the English language.

Playing games is an enjoyable way of improving your English as well. Memory games offered online consist of many different topics. For example, if you want to increase your vocabulary, you can choose memory games of the English names for the various animals. Each game starts with cards turned face down. By clicking on each card, you will turn it over to see a picture of the animal with the English word printed beneath. The object of the game is to match the cards that have the same picture and word. Although this may seem childish it is very beneficial for English language learners of all ages.

In order for non-native English speakers to obtain work or acceptance to a university or college in an English speaking country, they have to pass a basic English language proficiency exam. In the United States, this is called the TOFEL. By taking an online course, you will gain all the instruction you need to help you pass this course. With the interactive solutions, you will gain valuable tips about writing this exam and tips and strategies that you can use in preparing the required essay for college entrance.

Read the news in English and listen to passages being read by native English speakers. This will help you improve your speaking because you can record your own reading of the passages and determine how well you compare with the pronunciation. There is no limit as to how many times you can replay each of the passages and each lesson on the grammar structures also starts with a listening passage in the form of a dialogue using the structures. This allows you to see how you can use them in normal conversation.

Such a site is not just for those learning English as a foreign language. English speaking students can improve their knowledge of the language, especially the grammar by availing of the resources offered on a free site. It can be used in combination with any type of instruction to enhance your learning.

It won cost you a penny to take an online English course and will provide you with many benefits. You can stay at home while you learn and you won have to give up your job to attend classes or have to rearrange your work schedule. Best of all you won have to leave your family behind when you move to an English-speaking country to study. However, there is still a commitment involved. The fact that you can do the studying at any time of the day or night as long as you have a computer and Internet connection means you have to set your own schedule. If you are really serious about learning English for free, you will have to make a commitment of time and set aside a block of time in which you devote yourself to taking the online lessons.

You won even have to buy any textbooks to take such a course. If you wish you can have a notebook by the computer so that you can take notes of important terms or vocabulary you really want to remember. Although you don have to, when you listen to the recorded passages being read by native English speakers, you can have a tape recorder or other recording device on which you record yourself reading the passages. Then you can replay the recording to see how well your pronunciation measures up against the speaker in the recording.

There are many online sites you can use to take these online courses. However there are some things you should look for in this site to make sure it offers everything you need to become fluent in English. Some of these things are:

* A free audio course

* Comprehension questions on the passages to ensure you understand the meaning

* Comprehensive lessons on the structures of English grammar

* Listening exercises using the structures

* Practice exercises so that you can demonstrate that you understand the material presented in the lessons

* Free dictionary in which you can get help in translating English words into your native tongue

* Games that will help increase your vocabulary

* Access to English literature through which you can read stories and essays

* Access to a chat line through which you can communicate with instructors and other students.
The four main components that every course in learning English needs to have are listening, speaking, reading and writing. These are part of all English courses for school children in English speaking countries. They learn the pronunciation by listening to others and through speaking with them. In school they read various types of passages, books and information and they complete practice exercises on these and on the instruction they receive in grammar. So you see an online course offers you everything you would receive in an actual class.

Learning English should be something you want to do, but it should also be enjoyable. When you find a topic frustrating, leave it for a while and so something else, such as playing a word search game or read a news item. Then come back to the harder topic later. You don always have to stick to something for a long period of time because if you do it will become boring.

With the many sites offering free learning English online courses, you can save yourself the cost of tuition and you don have to move away from home to live in an English-speaking country. The best way to learn English is to immerse yourself in the culture and spend time talking to other people in the language. With the online courses, there is a chat line with whom you can communicate with others just like yourself and with whom you can speak English. Using a chat line also gives you the opportunity to write in English to use the proper grammar and you get practice in reading as well when you read the conversations. Although you won actually speak to others, these forms of communication are just as important. You will also communicate with native English speakers who will give you constructive criticism and help you correct any mistakes you make.

You do have to be motivated to take full advantage of a free online English course. You have to ask yourself why you are taking the course. Your reasons will provide you with the motivation you need. For example, you may want to learn English to get a raise or a better job, you may want to be able to conduct business in an English speaking country or you may want to have a basic knowledge of the language because you want to visit an English speaking country.

Since you have to set your own time for studying, you do need to think about your motivation in order to prevent distractions from keeping you from your task. You don have to adhere to someone else time table as you would if you were attending classes, so you should have a set time when you log on at sometime during the day or night. It is best if you inform your family and friends that you are not to be disturbed during this time. Although you can choose to study once a week, it is better for you if you do so every day because this way you won forget the structures you learn between lessons. Set achievable goals for yourself ?ones that you can accomplish in a very short time. Once you see that you are making progress, it makes the learning process easier.

Take notes as you are learning by writing down points and rules in a notebook. Vary your lessons so that you are not focusing on structures all the time. When you do the practice exercises, don be disappointed if you make mistakes. Use the mistakes as a learning experience and review the material so you can understand where you made the mistakes and how you can improve.

Listening is an important component of language learning. The online course you choose should have an audio component in which you can listen to native English speakers using the words and phrases properly. You should spend time listening to the passages several times and then read them out loud yourself. Record yourself as you read and then compare your speech to that of the speaker in the course to determine how well you are doing.

A typical lesson should include all aspects of language learning ?listening, speaking, reading and writing. Take advantage of the comprehension exercises that follow the passages so you ensure you understand what the passage is about. Utilize games that help you learn vocabulary through the flash cards that contain words and pictures.

When you want to learn how to talk English, it is important that you do so by listening and speaking to those for whom English is the native tongue. The best way to become a fluent English speaker is to immerse yourself in the language. This means living in a community where the people speak English. For example, if you go shopping all the sales staff speak English and in order for you to communicate with them you do need to be able to say some words. Many non-English speakers who want to learn the English language do move to an English speaking location and attend school, but in many cases this is not always possible. For these people, there are online courses that they can take and stay at home while they are learning

You have to be aware that when you first start learning English, you will make mistakes. Making mistakes is an important part of learning in all cases. You will learn from your mistakes, especially if you have good support from those around you. English speaking children make mistakes when they first start talking and the parents and those around them correct them when they say the words incorrectly or use them improperly. The same is true of adults who are learning the language so when someone does correct your speech, you need to accept it as constructive criticism and know that they are trying to help you.

One way of learning to talk in English is to watch English television. If you use subtitles in your own language then you can understand the story line of movies. However some aspects of the speech, such as the use of sarcasm, do not translate well when using close captioning because the language translates literally.

Language dictionaries that translate words and phrases from your native language to English are really helpful in teaching you the vocabulary you need to communicate when visiting an English speaking country. You do need to practice the speech in order to be able to say the words properly. The essential part of learning English is to learn the alphabet and the ways in which the letters are pronounced. When children first start school they learn the sounds of the letters and then learn how to combine them into words. If you start reading beginning books for children, these books have pictures for the words and in books that tell stories, the pictures correspond with the storyline. Most of these books are available as audio books so that you can read along on your own as you listen to the story being read.

In an online audio English course, you listen to native English speakers reading passages that start off relatively simple and gradually progress to more difficult topics. The topics are those that you need for conversational English and ones that read passages from the news and informational passages. These passages also have comprehension exercises you can complete to make sure that you understand the meaning of what you listened to and read on your own. With these passages, you can listen to the passage being read and then practice reading it on your own.
