With the price of gas today you need to be smart when you buy a car. Why not a cheap smart car?

By Peter Clark

Smart cars are fast becoming more popular worldwide over the last 12 months. Originally considered a novelty, the smart car is on the rise as a modern fuel efficient and cheap motoring alternative.

Cheap smart cars are now an excellent way to avoid the high cost of motoring.

You may already be familiar with smart cars. A tiny four wheeled vehicle no more than about half the length of a normal car. The smart car has a distinctive shape and look and you may well have seen them in the street.

If not you'’ll recognize a smart car when you do see it. The most distinctive feature of the car, apart from the fact that the smart car is extremely short, is the steep windshield sloping down to the front of the car, with the front bumper, if you could call it that, right in front of the front wheels.

The original intention of the smart car was to be of use as a vehicle that avoided the parking headaches of larger cars by reason of the fact that it was so short it could park in parking spots so small that not much other than a motorcycle could park there. Not only that but it was also so small that it could park nose or tail in to the kerb without the other end of the car poking out into the traffic and causing a traffic hazard.

It was intended that two smart cars could park in a space which would normally be taken by one regular car, or even 3 smart cars could park in the space occupied by a large vehicle.

The smart car was the result of a joint venture between Daimler Benz the car manufacturer and Swatch the Swiss watch manufacturer. The smart cars were manufactured in a purpose built factory in France which as established in 1994 and so have been around for some time. It is said that almost 1 million smart cars have been sold in over 25 countries.

In early 2008 smart cars became available in the US, and people started to realize that a cheap smart car was a smart motoring purchase.

Smart cars are cheap compared to average vehicles, and have many advantages over many vehicles as well. And of course they also have disadvantages. They take only 2 people, and are extremely small so it isn'’t practical to spend a day shopping and expect to put your new television in the back of the car.

That being said there are some good reasons to buy a cheap smart car, particularly for city dwellers. As said they are cheap to buy and cheap to operate. They have a gasoline motor but because of the small size and weight of the car don'’t eat as much fuel as just about any other car. They are easy to park and easy to house even in the smallest garage. They have achieved surprisingly good results in safety crash tests.

For the canny buyer there are good reasons to buy a cheap smart car. There are small numbers of used smart cars on the market and a second hand smart car is a good way to maximize your savings from a purchase of a smart car. There are a number of places where you can pick up a bargain on a used smart car online if you know where to look.

So if the price of gas is becoming an issue for you and you'’d like to keep driving but at a much reduced cost then consider a cheap smart car. It’’s a smart purchase and may well keep you on the road when others can no longer afford gas.

If you have been to a foreign country you know exactly what I''m talking about, those cars on the wrong side of the road!

By Daniel Millions

It might be a convenience that many would enjoy if the rules of the road were the same no matter what country you were visiting. This could also keep it from being so confusing to individuals when it comes to visiting other countries that use the left hand drive cars, especially if they are more comfortable in driving the right hand drive cars. The reality is however, that there are many countries who have opposite rules of the road.

Many years ago, archaeologists in England made a very interesting discovery. They happened upon a well-preserved path that had been continuously used for traveling by horses. By carefully studying the path, the archaeologists found that it was very clear that the riders that were riding these horses would normally tend to travel on the left side of the path. It was also found that these riders would tend to steer their horses by using their left hands.

The tradition of both the horses that were ridden, and the vehicles that were driven, driving to the left has remained the same throughout many centuries in England. During the 1700s a law was ultimately passed that would secure this driving preference. This law was called the Highway Act 1773, and it states that all traffic is to keep to the left when they are driving on the roads.

The United States also shared this preference of using left hand traffic, but then it was switched to using right hand traffic at about the same time period that England passed the law of the Highway Act 1773. The setup that was used for the horse-driven freight wagons is essentially what ended up prompting this change to take place into using right hand traffic. This preference of driving is still in effect to this day.

There are many places all around the world, as well as a majority of all the countries that prefer using the style of automobiles that are left hand drive cars, yet they prefer using right-hand traffic. There are some countries however that uses left hand traffic along with the use of left hand drive cars.

There are some countries that will allow its citizens to have the right in being able to choose which type of vehicle they would prefer to drive. They have the benefit in being able to decide if they would prefer to drive either a left hand drive car, or the right hand drive cars. The United Kingdom essentially uses the left hand drive cars, but there are some of its individuals that take advantage of being able to choose from a variety of European import vehicles that are right-hand drive vehicles.

Then, there are other countries that have banned the use altogether of its citizens being able to use any automobiles that have the wrong-side steering wheels. This could be perhaps due to the tremendous amount of confusion that it can create for the country’’s normal flow of traffic.

Even with the variety of options and different rules of various countries, the left hand drive cars still remain the most popular and preferred choice for a majority of individuals all around the world today. A majority of the automobile manufacturers that are responsible for making both the left hand drive cars, as well as the right hand drive cars, still prefer making and producing the left hand drive automobiles.

You have seen them on t.v, the cars driving on the opposite side of the road.

By Daniel Millions

When most people hear about cars driving on the left side of the road, they associate this unique driving situation to all of Europe. However, driving on the left side of the road is mostly a British custom. The rest of Europe drives on the right side of the side, while many of the former British colonies follow their original law. Some of the other countries driving on the left side of the road is most of southern Africa, Japan, and Australia. About one-third of the world population drives on the left side of the road.

Why is it that in some countries you drive on the left side of the road, and in other countries you drive on the right side of the road? Originally, in ancient times, nearly all of the countries traveled on the left side of the roadway. However, once Napoleon began conquering the world, he required that his new countries conform to his homeland France and travel on the right side of the road.

In most cases, the differences between left and right handed driving cars are completely symmetrical. In cars the drive on the right side of the road, the driver’’s seat and steering wheel are on the left side. On the other hand, the driver’’s seat is position on the right side of vehicles in countries where the law is to drive on the left side of the road. Similarly, passing, turns against oncoming traffic, and traffic signs all take part of the opposite side of the road.

When talking about the flow of traffic, drivers in the United States drive in “right-hand traffic.” However, they drive “left-hand vehicles.” It’’s a very important to distinguish the difference. These terms are quite easy to confuse with each other. An uninformed driver could create an unfortunate accident, so it’’s important to take special notice in areas the law may be different.

Typically, it’’s not possible to license a car that is orientated incorrectly. Aside from tourists, it’’s illegal to drive a car that’’s built for the wrong side of the road. An exception to this are many countries where the driving law has recently been changed. In many cases, incorrectly orientated cars are not only illegal to drive, but also illegal to sell. The exception to this law is when the vehicle is considered an antique or exotic car.

There are a couple exceptions and interesting scenarios that may take place due to this law. One exception to the law is the postal service. In the United States, the steering wheel placed on the right side, and the vehicle drives on both sides of the road as it delivers the mail and packages. Garbage trucks, road cleaners, and law enforcement vehicles are also allowed to drive against the regular flow of traffic when considered necessary. Another fascinating conflict with that comes with opposite lanes of driving is traveling through foreign countries. In some scenarios, it may be required to switch back and forth between lanes.

For most people, driving on the correct side of the road isn'’t too big of a challenge. However, it’’s certainly an interesting bit of trivia and is definitely important information for world travelers. You never know when you may find yourself driving down the roads of Australia, or crossing the border from France into the United Kingdom.

Fame, fortune, and the fast lane this is the Las Vegas experience. And what better way to explore the Vegas strip than on board a grand and posh car. Don'’t have such ride of your own? No problem, because here, in Las Vegas, exotic car rental models and even classic cars can be had for every taste.

Tourists often come to Las Vegas in the hopes of getting a taste of the finer things in life. Whether that be a night at the Bellagio, a winning streak at the roulette table, or a romantic dinner at the Venetian, Las Vegas is seen as a haven of fantasy. No fantasy, however, is complete without the incumbent set of accessories. And what more can accentuate the wealth and glamor that is Las Vegas than riding in style in an exotic car rental for your own delightful, albeit temporary, use.

Finding the right ride for you will not be a tough feat in this city. exotic car rental car providers in Las Vegas definitely have impressive fleets that can suit any and every taste. May it be a Corvette, a Ferrari, or a Porsche, Las Vegas exotic car rental firms have something to wow your eyes (and your dates too).

But if you are one who believes that distinction is of the essence when in Las Vegas, then a classic car rental is the ride for you. Las Vegas classic car rental models are known for their astounding and completely unique visual impact. Imagine rolling through the Vegas strip in a re-engineered 1934 Buick that is reminiscent of the Bonnie and Clyde days. Or perhaps arrive at a party in the grace and sophistication of a convertible 30s-era Mercedes-Benz. And speed in the Las Vegas road way need not be compromised when driving in a classic car rental. Zip past through the rest in a sexy 1936 Auburn Boat Tail Speedster running on a Supercharged GM 350 V8 engine.

Las Vegas is the city where dreams come true. And the city’’s exotic and classic car rental industry is there to make that happen for you. Exotic car rental companies in Las Vegas include travel destinations in their packages that can traverse anywhere from the urbane metropolis to the rustic mountains.

Classic car rental businesses, on the other hand, present their fleet of vintage automobiles that offer more than just a trip on wheels. These Las Vegas classic car rental models will send you on a trip back through time in all out glamor and finesse.

So whether you'’re a speed demon or a connoisseur of the classics, this city has something for you. With the myriad of car models and types to choose from, your Las Vegas fantasy may just turn into a reality.

Motorcycles are a lot of fun, but they are even better, when you have all the safety gear in place.

By Joaquin Costa

If you decided to buy a motorcycle, you need some accessories,so here is my advcie about the best gadgets you can get to have a better ride and to protect yourself.

Motor cycle boots should be stiff in order to provide protection, but not too much so. First you need an insurance. Motorcycle insurance quotes help you estimate the available insurance options for your bike. We can choose insurance policies either through insurance agents or online.

Also you need protective gear: Motorcycle pants come in many variations. Regular motorcycle pants are like normal pants only that they give extra protection especially on the butt. Motorcycle boots come in different colors and designs to fit your mood and lifestyle. However, it is wise to choose a design that’’s not only based on appearance, but also on durability and safety features.

Choosing motorcycle boots apparel can be a tough task. The perfect motorcycle boots apparel needs to have certain qualities and sometimes you don'’t want to sacrifice anything, making it harder to find the right boots. Choosing motorcycle boots with thick rubber soles will help absorb vibration from the motorcycle that can cause foot and leg pain. A deep tread pattern is essential for traction and stability.

Motorcycle saddlebags are far more advanced and high tech than the sacks used on horses. At an average speed that a motorcycle travels it required a secure and convenient mean of carrying the rider’’s belongings. Motorcycle tires are oftentimes misunderstood. This is a saddening fact.

Helmets, protectors and boots also available as add ons. Find packages for your street bike apparel, dirt bike and off road motocross MX and cruiser gear for your Harely Davidson!! Helmet must make you feel safe yet comfy. You can have the fiberglas shell helmet if you want your helmet to be high-impact resistant and durable. Helmets are key in keeping safe the fragile bones in the head. What we need to teach our children is to prepare for the unexpected.

Leather can lasts up to 30 years. Through the years it has already established an attitude and traditional beat. Leather, over the years, has proven to be the best material for motorcycle clothing. It is resistant to tear, naturally warm and acts as the first defense by coming between the biker and the rough asphalt road. Leather jackets and the fabric on textile jackets protect a motorcycle rider’’s skin from road rash with the aid of body armor inserts. There are many types of motorcycle jackets and helmets to choose from.

Leather motorcycle boots with thick flexible uppers provide much better protection against road debris and hot exhaust pipes. Frye boots is just one manufacturer that produces these kinds of quality engineer boots.

Goggles are a great way to protect the eyes without having the heaviness of a helmet. You won'’t have any protection for your head though, when you just have goggles on. Goggles don'’t do much for your head in an accident, but you will at least be able to see the road when you are taking that favorite ride around town.

Sport fans tend to follow the sponsors of their favourite team or player. The same can be said with auto racing; the only difference is that these players are referred to as drivers. In fact, with auto racing, this is most commonly seen with NASCAR. It has been said that NASCAR has the largest group of loyal fans. Fans not only support the sponsors of their favourite drivers, but they also tend to purchase merchandise or services from them. The same can be said with Formula Drifting.

Formula Drifting is a sport that is relatively new to the United States. Despite the fact that the first professional event was held in 2004, the sport still has quite the fan following. Like many NASCAR fans, these fans are loyal. That is why a large number of sponsors, also commonly referred to as product manufacturers have made the decision to become involved with the sport. When it comes to Formula D, the sponsors that most often first come to mind are tire manufacturers.

Tire manufacturers do not just get their name on a driver’’s uniform, but they also provide that driver with tires. With Formula D, the tires used are extremely important. In fact, to create a drift the tires need to loose tractions with the ground. This essentially helps to create the perfect drift. Since tires are so important to the sport of drifting, there are a large number of tire manufacturers who have inserted themselves into the sport. In fact, it has been noted that Formula D has the most tire manufacturer sponsors of any other motor sport; which includes NASCAR.

Nitto Tire is one of the many tire manufacturers that is involved with Formula Drifting. This manufacturer, like many other tire manufacturers, makes tires for all different vehicles and all different driving conditions. While they are well known for their tires for traditional vehicles, such as cars, SUV, and trucks, Nitto Tire is most well known for its racing tires. One of these tires includes the NT 555 RII. This type of tire is used primarily with road racing and other competitive sports, such as Formula D.

BF Goodrich Tire is another tire manufacturer that participates in Formula Drifting. This tire manufacturer is one of the most well known manufacturers in the United States. As with Nitto Tires, BG Goodrich Tires has a wide variety of different tires, available for all different uses. When it comes to sports cars and Formula Drifting, quite a few BF Goodrich Tires are ideal for the sport.

Maxxis Tires, another sponsor and tire manufacturer involved in Formula D, is also a well known tire manufacturer. Although they are not as well known to most everyday individuals, they are well known to those involved in auto sports, such as auto racing or Formula Drifting. In fact, most of Maxxis Tire’’s focus is placed on auto sports, including Formula Drifting.

Perhaps, out of all of the tire manufacturers and sponsors, for Formula Drifting, Bridgestone is the most well known. Bridgestone’’s tires are not only used in Formula D, but other motor sports as well. These additional sports include, but are not limited to, Formula 1, supercross racing, and monster truck racing. Bridgestone is not just popular among racing, but it is a company that is known by just about everyone. In fact, there is even a chance that you have Bridgestone tires on your personal vehicle.

In addition to the above mentioned tire manufacturers, Toyo Tires, Falken Tires, Cooper Tires, and Dunlop Tires are also Formula D sponsors. To add interest or extra excitement to your next Formula D event, keep an eye on the tires being used. While all of these tire manufacturers come highly recommended, you will often find that the tires used makes all the difference in the world.

Make your car go faster with performance underdrive pulleys? We''ll teach you how.

By Justina Mathews

You maybe have heard of an old trick in the world of automotive performance that uses special pulleys to somehow pick up more horsepower from an otherwise stock motor. This might seem a little too good to be true, but believe it or not, it actually it is a proven technique that you could apply to your engine in order to increase performance.

How does it work? Well, keep in mind that your engine is providing power to more than just the wheels of your car. For example, the alternator, the air conditioning compressor, and the power steering pump are all connected to the engine through a belt and pulley system. Each of those accessories has a small pulley that gets rotated by your serpentine belt that big belt located at the front of the engine. These pulleys take a small amount of horsepower from the engine in order to keep turning and working while you are driving. This is known as parasitic drag.

Now, normally this is not an issue. After all, the amount of energy it takes to turn two or three small pulleys is in the 5 to 7 horsepower range. No big deal, right? Well, when you are trying to squeeze every last drop of performance out of your engine, you should grab whatever you can. If this horsepower is there for the taking, why not take advantage?

The way to eliminate a substantial portion of this parasitic drag is to install special pulleys that take less energy to turn yet are still capable of running your accessories. These are called underdrive pulleys. The most obvious difference between an underdrive pulley and a standard pulley is that it has a smaller diameter. This makes it so that the pulley does not turn as fast as the stock pulley, meaning that less energy is used in the motion. More importantly, these pulleys are also much lighter than a stock pulley, and the reduced mass makes them far easier to rotate. It is this last feature which gives you the biggest performance gains. Usually you can access about 3 to 5 free horsepower with these devices.

I know what you are thinking if the pulleys are not spinning as fast as they used to, doesnt this mean that my accessories are not going to get the power that they need to work properly? Yes and no. It is usually safe to underdrive your accessories by about 20 percent. If you go below this point, you might start to notice issues like an alternator which does not generate enough electricity to keep the engine running, or a power steering pump that you have to fight against in order to turn the wheels.

These issues, when they appear, usually occur only at idle. This is why the 20 percent limit is recommended on a street car. If you are running primarily on the track, where you will see wide open throttle most of the time, then you can take the chance of running a more aggressive set of pulleys that will reduce parasitic drag by a greater amount.

Maintaining the electrical system on your ride can mean the difference between wining and embarrassment.

By Justina Mathews

On any automobile, the condition of the electrical system goes a long way towards keeping your performance at the most advantageous level. This system is called upon to do a lot when it comes to keeping your ride running. In an older motor vehicle, the electrical system has to keep energy flowing to the ignition and spark plugs, as well as run all of the cars accessories. In a modern car, extra strain is added by the fact that the cars computer needs a stable stream of power, not to mention the demands of a massive amount of sensors.

When racing, the cars engine is under maximum load for a fairly considerable length of time. This means that if the electrical system is not in the very best shape, you could be looking at power loss, hesitation, and strange behavior at the worst possible time. No one wants to pull out to pass someone only to have a cylinder misfire, or experience the agony of the ignition shutting off halfway down a quarter-mile run. How can you avoid these types of problems dudes?

The first thing to do is make sure your alternator is up to the job of generating the power you require while racing. The alternator runs off a belt from the engine and it is intended to put out enough power to not only charge the battery but also keep the motor running. If you have added on a more powerful ignition, or a new stand-alone engine management system, then your stock alternator might not be able to keep up with the electrical demands your car is making. Upgrading to a larger alternator will give your car more amps to divide amongst the various electrical components that are needed while running at full throttle.

The next item you should check? Your connection points. Increased electrical demands means more heat being created at each junction where wires connect to each other, to the battery, or to the chassis. Over time this heat can damage connections or burn them out, leaving them blackened or scored. This heat degrades the ability of a connection to properly transmit the power your engine needs. Not only that, but solenoids can also be burned out completely by this extreme electrical heat. If you notice that certain connections are consistently being affected, then you can try to upgrade them to a gauge of wire with a greater capacity. You might also want to consider evaluating your wiring as a whole to see why certain points are falling victim to more heat than others.

A further way to reduce the strain on your electrical system while racing is to remove accessories that you don'’t really need. Stereo system, air conditioner, power windows and door locks? These extras are not going to help you make horsepower out on the track, and their use while racing is just going to put stress on your alternator. Ripping them out or shutting them down while you are racing will help keep the electrical system cool and probably pick you up a few seconds over the course of the race.

Rims on you racer look nice, but will they help you win?

By Justina Mathews

When trying to decide what rims to go racing with, there are quite a few things you need to think about. First, of course, is aesthetics. You are going to have to look at your wheel and tire combination every single day that you drive your car, and if you do not like how it looks, no matter how race-ready the wheels are, then you are just going to end up feeling negative about them. Make sure to pick wheels that have a design you can live with, better yet, pick a design that you will enjoy riding in.

Of course, a great looking wheel is only the beginning. The two most vital physical characteristics of a racing wheel are its weight and its strength. Racing is an extremely demanding sport in terms of the forces and stresses that are put on your car. This kind of driving quickly separates parts and components which are cheaply made and those which can stand the test of a few hot laps. Wheels are no different, in fact, they can be amongst the most important decisions you make when it comes to outfitting your car for the track.

Lets start with weight. Wheel weight is known as unsprung mass. This term refers to the weight of components which are not supported by the suspension system. Reducing this number can dramatically speed up your car, as lower wheel weights let the suspension react faster to any imperfections or changes in road condition or driving. It also brings down the overall weight of the car, which we all know is a big factor in speeding up acceleration and cutting down braking distances.

Strength is a measure of a wheels ability to handle impacts and other forms of stress without deforming or cracking. Coming down hard on a curb, pothole, or other obstacle can be enough to cause weaker wheels to bend at the lip. This is especially true of the larger diameter wheels seen on a lot of imports, since low-profile sidewalls do not absorb as much impact as standard tires.

Not surprisingly, strength and weight are tied together in the world of racing wheels. There are two basic ways to construct a wheel: forging and casting. Cast wheels are very common on street machines, and they are formed by pouring liquid metal into a mold. This method requires that wheel manufacturers use a lot of metal alloy in order to make sure that the wheel is as strong as it needs to be, thus increasing the weight of the wheel. Forged wheels are created by working the metal at a lower temperature, and this lets companies create stronger wheels with far less materials than are used in cast construction.

What does this mean for you? Basically, forged wheels are a much better racing solution than cast wheels. They are stronger and lighter, making them an unbeatable combination for the track. Unfortunately, they are also significantly more expensive than cast wheels, but this is the price that you will need to pay when trying to wring out those precious few seconds from each lap time.

Keep your street car''s cooling system working well, or you might bake your engine alive...

By Justina Mathews

Your cooling system is extremely significant. Once you start customizing your sports car for speed and horsepower, things can start to get really hot under the hood. This is because your cars energy only translates about 30 percent of the energy found in gasoline into power. The rest of it ends up as waste heat, and as any good hot-rodder or tuner knows, heat is one of the biggest enemies of performance.

This is because engines are intended to run inside fairly narrow temperature ranges. You have probably seen that a motor can be somewhat hesitant in the mornings on a very icy day it needs to warm up to that most advantageous temperature in order to become efficient and make the most horsepower that it can. Likewise, since the temperatures inside an engine can get scorching and do not forget, you are actually using controlled burns of gasoline to get where you are going too much heat can melt or damage important engine components. This is especially true if you are running performance parts such as aluminum cylinder heads.

So how can you maintain things as cool as possible? It helps to have a cooling system that is up to the mission of keeping your engine from baking alive. The more power you make, the hotter you engine could start to run. The first thing to keep in mind is that you should run the type of coolant that the manufacturer recommends for your car. Now I know a lot of people tell you that all coolant is the same and that you can go down to the local supply shop and buy green, blue or orange coolant and just dump it in there, but this is not true. Each type of coolant has a different chemical composition, and your engine was designed to run specifically with what it came with from the factory.

Another way you can help your stock cooling system deal with the increased load is by installing a more powerful electric fan. Most modern cars use electric fans as a stock accessory, but if you are running an older car, then you can use a conversion kit to switch over to an electric from a mechanical fan fairly easily. The key characteristic of an electric fan is how many cubic feet per minute of air it can move CFM. You can easily find a fan with a higher CFM than your stock fan, and sometimes, (depending on how much space you have in your engine bay), you can install two fans side by side in the same housing.

Electric fans are very useful if you have a turbo car. Turbos spin very, very fast sometimes tens of thousands of rpm. Naturally, they can get extremely hot, and so can their manifolds. A good trick is to set your electric fan to keep running even after you have shut down the car after a hard run. It might make you feel a bit weird to walk away from your car with the fan still whirring, but putting the fan on a timer or temperature sensor that shuts it down once your engine and turbo are back down to a reasonable temperature is a great way to prevent component damage and prolong the life of your vehicle.

Why should you get strut tower braces for your car?

By Justina Mathews

If you have ever used up any time pushing your car hard through the corners, then you know that the hardness of the suspension really makes a difference in how well it holds the road. To begin with, any kind of lean in a corner can cause your car to loose traction as the tires struggle to keep their contact patch on the ground. Not only that, but lean can also put a fair amount of strain on the suspension components bearing the brunt of the force.

You have probably changed out your stock factory springs for sport springs with a more aggressive rate that keeps your car from diving too much under braking, creating an overall stiffer ride. You might have also matched them with heavy-duty shock absorbers which help to keep the car feeling tight over elevation changes and through rapid direction changes. Even with these kinds of mods, you might still be frustrated with the amount of body roll you feel on the track or even on the street. What other options are left for you to explore?

One of the best decisions you can make would be to install front and rear strut-tower brace. What is a strut-tower brace? Simply put, a strut-tower brace is a solid piece of metal (or carbon fiber, if you are into that exotic, ultra-expensive range of parts), which is used to horizontally brace the frame of the car. The strut tower is the mounting point for the top of the shock absorber, and it is directly connected to the vehicles chassis. By using the brace to attach the left and right strut towers together, it’’s like you are adding on to the frame, except you are doing it from the top, instead of the bottom as you would with a sway bar.

The strut tower at the front of the car is found in your engine bay. This means that you need to make sure that any strut tower brace you are considering has enough clearance to make it over the top of your valve cover. Oh, and keep in mind that once you are done admiring your installation work, you will need to be able to close the hood as well so it cannot be too tall either.

The rear strut tower is a little trickier. On some cars, it can be found in the trunk, or cargo area if you have a hatchback. There is usually enough space to easily get hands and tools in and lock the bar down. However, many sedans have the strut towers hidden under the rear deck or seat meaning that the seat has to come out before they can be accessed. This extra step can be a pain if space in your car is tight.

One thing is certain about strut tower braces: once you have one in your car, you will wonder how you ever got along without one. With the tightened chassis, you will feel like your import is on rails, and corners that used to have your passengers holding onto the door handle will feel a lot calmer and more controlled which is exactly how your car should feel.

Want to avoid damaging your engine when racing?

By Justina Mathews

The fuel system is the livelihood of your imports engine. To put it simply, if at any given time your car becomes starved of gasoline, there is a good chance that damage will occur to your engine, especially if you are using nitrous oxide, forced induction, or running at very high rpms. So critical is fuel delivery to high performance street machines that most turbocharger kits or nitrous systems provide larger or extra fuel injectors and heavy duty fuel pumps to keep up with the demand.

It is obvious that keeping your fuel system in the best possible shape is critical when it comes to maintaining a healthy engine. There are a few different areas that you need to keep an eye on in order to make sure that your fuel system is running at the highest level.

The first and easiest step you can take is to regularly replace your fuel filters. Now, I know this does not sound glamorous, but fuel filters are in all probability the most forgotten serviceable component in the entire system. This is usually because unlike an air filter, fuel filters can be hidden out of sight anywhere along the fuel line. They are usually found either near the fuel pump or near the tank. Some vehicles have an in-tank fuel pump with a filter located nearby, and some even have an additional fuel filter in the engine bay.

Wherever yours are, over time they can clog up due to impurities in fuel or corrosion in the gas lines or tank itself. This clogging drastically reduces fuel delivery, and can lead to bad news under the hood of your car, not to mention lower fuel economy. Replacing fuel filters is usually cheap and easy, so it’’s worth doing at least once per season.

The injectors themselves can also get dirty or fouled, and this can lead to reduced power and mileage as well. What usually happens is that carbon or other contaminants coat the tip of the injector and turn the fine spray of gasoline into a trickle or a thicker spurt. This reduces the atomization of the gas, and is a general performance let-down. You have got a couple of options if you suspect that your fuel injectors might be dirty. You can use an in-tank fuel additive that will use chemicals to try to strip away to coating on the injectors, but this is not always effective. The most surefire way to clean up your act is to remove the injectors and have them sent away to one of the several companies which specialize in cleaning them off. Sure, you won'’t be able to drive your car while they are away, but when they come back they will be as good as new.

Finally, you should keep an eye on your fuel pump to make sure that it has still got some life left in it. If your car has an in-tank fuel pump, listen for any strange sounds coming from the rear of your car when you turn the key to the on position. In-tank pumps use fuel as a lubricant and coolant, and if they are starting to wear out, they can get quite noisy. It is always better to replace a fuel pump than to have it fail on you out of the blue or in the middle of a quarter mile run.

Thinking of getting attention? Do you crave the feeling of being noticed and looked at because of the car that you are driving? Do want the feel of masculinity and the allure it exudes? Then getting a nice sports car for you might be a good start.

So what are your options? You can check out muscle cars, exotic super cars, and tricked out roadsters. Two cars will be elaborated on here because of each car’’s well known reputation as macho machines and chick magnets, the Ferrari Modena 360 and the Chevrolet Corvette.

The Ferrari Modena 360

The Modena is a top of the line sports car that matches an aggressive design with comfort and performance. Keep in mind that this beauty is not a conventional car in the sense that it is simply not used to go and get the groceries at the store or to pick up the kids from school.

It is a pleasure machine made to attract attention and induce oohs and aahs from the crowd. It is a weekend car to be driven with utmost adrenaline and fun as the main goal. And for a thrilling weekend drive, this car will cost you around $150,000. Sure, you can use it to get your groceries or pick up your kid albeit quickly. But as they say, you buy it because you can and because women will be attracted to you if you happen to have one. Despite everything, this Ferrari can be considered to be grounded by comfort and practicality as much as possible. Unlike some models, Ferrari made certain to focus on things like ergonomics, interiors, and transmission which make it very usable even for daily drives.

The Chevrolet Corvette

The current Corvette or C6 as it is called since it is the model’’s sixth reincarnation, has new styling. It has exposed headlamps and a slimmer body. It boasts of improved performance, handling, comfort, and refinement. It is a sports car that drivers will find easy to handle both on the road and the race track.

If you are testing your limits at the track or just having fun driving around town, the new Corvette is forgiving even when driven really hard. Its six-cylinder engine is capable of powerful acceleration and is comparable to that of a Ferrari Modena. The new Corvette is lighter than its predecessor.

Having a sports car may get you more dates than before but it also means spending more for maintenance and service parts not to mention its fuel consumption. It has little space for extra persons but if you are going on a date then this will do the trick.

This is a discussion document relating to the
advantages of a water to fuel conversion system over alternative biofuel systems.

By Bill Williams

In this document I would like to outline some of the deficiencies in the use of ETHANOL as a proposed
“alternative” carbon-free, low-gas emission fuel.

Let’’s start by taking a look at where ethanol comes from, how it is produced, and why it is being touted as an energy efficient environmentally friendly biofuel.

Ethanol can be produced as a petrochemical via the hydration of ethylene, and biologically, by fermenting sugars with yeast. In this paper we will leave aside the ethanol produced petrochemically and digest some facts relating to the field crops required to produce ethanol.

In the U.S.A ethanol as a fuel is derived mainly from maize (corn). According to the “Renewable Fuel Association, in October ‘’07, there were 131 grain ethanol bio-refineries in the U.S.A. with a further 72 refineries under construction. So lets ask how much maize will these refineries consume just to produce a biofuel?. Well America alone produces 270 million metric tons annually which is almost half the worlds harvest.

It has been calculated that 500lbs of maize is required to provide one full tank for the average american car; simple arithmetic will show that equates to approximately 12 tons of maize for 1 car for 1 year. If America is producing 270 million tons p.a., which is the approximate amount required to keep 20 million cars on the U.S roads for one year then ALL of America’’s maize production is used on the production of fuel and there is none left to use as FOOD.

Brazil now has a policy of supporting ethanol as a car fuel which is provided from domestically grown sugar cane, which not only has a greater concentration of sucrose than corn (approx. 30% better) but is also much easier to extract.

The policies of both the Brazilian and the U.S.A. governments who supply 69% of the worlds ethanol- regarding the production of ethanol biofuels is directly at the expense of the food supply chain. Both sugar products and corn have soared up in price as a direct result of these policies and the huge subsidies paid to farmers and industrial conglomerates. In fact the Asian Development Bank stated on Monday the 21st April this year “that developed nations should stop paying agricultural subsidies to encourage biofuel production because those payments are making staple foods more expensive.”

Sweden does not help this situation either as its said that 13% of new cars sold there now run on biofuel and practically every other car maker in the world is trying to make their own version of a biofuel car.

In following their policy to produce ethanol biofuel systems they have turned their backs to the fact that this policy has a negative effect on the environment by removing crops (food) from the food chain and where it is the case (Brazil,S America) where tropical forests are being demolished to plant biofuel producing crops, they are removing those vital trees from from the land which themselves can literally absorb a ton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in their lifetime.

Finally, a recent article in Science magazine states: “the use of US croplands for biofuels causes increased greenhouse gas emissions through emissions from land use change”.

Having read the above it is incredible how anyone could perceive ethanol to be an ethical alternative fuel.

There is an ethical, environmentally friendly system available NOW, but nobody in government nor anyone in the oil industry supports it. WHY, - simply because they have a vested interest in the status quo.The big conglomerates with government officials aiding them have invested BILLIONS in the aforementioned so called alternative fuels and they have made huge mistakes, but their shortsightedness in trying to protect their bad investments at all costs, is at a cost to the world’’s precious delicate environment.

As mentioned we do have an alternative system that is eco-friendly and it is available NOW; it is the water to fuel conversion system which for a very small fee is yours to benefit from immediately.

What are the immediate benefits of installing a water to fuel conversion system?
a)..Your vehicle will dramatically produce significantly cleaner gas emissions thus reducing the amount of carbon dioxide discharged into the air.
b)..You will reduce the amount of land required for crops to convert to biofuel which can then be re-utilized for growing vital food crops.
c)..Reduced petrol/diesel consumption via improved m.p.g.
d)..Both a & b help to provide a better, healthier environment, and incidentally and very happily with c) you will find you have more cash left in your pocket.

Financing a used semi truck doesn''t have to be hard. Here are some great ideas on how to get that truck paid for so you can get to work!

By Heather Jacobson

Semi trailer trucks, or semi trucks for short, have proven to be very versatile vehicles, with a multitude of uses besides transporting cargo. Since there are now semi truck manufacturers that produce different types of beds or attachments, you can now make use of one semi to do tons of tasks, and can be a great business venture.

Having a used semi truck can be an excellent investment, especially if your business requires you to have a reliable mode of transport for inventory, machinery, and others. If you are considering buying a used semi truck and setting up your own trucking business, there are several ways for you to go about it. Below are five ways to finance a used semi truck, hopefully they'’ll help you out.

1.	In-house financing. Many used semi truck dealers will offer you in-house financing at a fixed rate. For example, companies like Volvo, Mack, Peterbilt, and others sell brand new semi trucks, but also offer used ones for sale. Since they dictate the price, they also decide on your interest rate, which is likely to be fixed already. You then have to determine a flexible payment term.

2.	Is there a zero down payment scheme? Yes, there are many private sellers of used heavy equipment and semi trucks that provide no down payment or zero down payment options for clients with reliable credit. Usually a credit score of 650 or more is needed, so have your records on hand.

3.	Finding low down payment terms. Semi truck prices vary depending on the model and year it was purchased. For clients who do not have a high credit rating, it still possible to get low down payment plans from sellers. Some terms may require a 20% or as much as 30% down payment, depending on the qualifications of the buyer.

4.	You can also opt to get a loan. Financing a used semi truck can be done through a bank or private lender, so you can get to pay your seller the full amount, then worry about paying your lender on a monthly basis. Loans from banks also have a fixed interest rate, and approval for amount is dependent on the credit score of the borrower.

5.	Used truck auctions are also a smart way to get a used semi truck. You can check out sites online for announcements and inventories of available semi trucks up for auction in your area.

We discuss whether you should choose an automatic or manual transmission for racing.

By Justina Mathews

Should you choose a manual transmission or automatic? This is the dispute that muscle car owners have been having with each other since the dawn of time, or at least, since the dawn of the Sixties. Whether you prefer to squash rocks with a Muncie 4-speed or let your Hydromatic handle the shifting duties for you, lets take a look at some of the good things and bad things of each type of transmission from a performance perspective.

The manual transmission is of course the conventional method of changing gears, dating back to the original automobiles of yesteryear. The greatest disagreement for the continued use of manual transmissions, despite all of our years of technological advancement, is that the human brain is much better at calculating when to shift than a computer. The logic behind this is that a computer-controlled transmission cannot see up ahead to know what corners or hills are coming, therefore putting it at a disadvantage on the race track when it comes to selecting the proper gear.

There is a lot of truth to this, and it is the primary reason why there are no serious race cars with fully automatic transmissions. However, manuals also have more moving parts than an automatic, and items like the clutch can stop working if not used properly or if it is exposed to too much power all at once.

The majority of muscle cars are equipped with automatic transmissions. This is because many prefer to just sit back and drive instead of having to make decisions about what gear they should be in. From a performance perspective, automatic transmissions have speed on their side they can shift much, much faster than even a professional driver using a manual.

This instant shifting makes them ideal for drag racing, as they can slam the car from gear to gear while going down the track at lightning speeds, picking up valuable fractions of a second over someone having to coordinate their clutch and stick shift. The knock against automatics is that, well, they are boring. That and the fact that they are quite sensitive to heat, which can wear them out internally and lead to an expensive repair.

So which is it? Manuals or automatics? It all really comes down to personal preference, as well as the situations you are going to be placing your car in. If you will be competing in events which take place on road course, or if you love blasting down twisty mountain passes, then a manual is definitely going to provide you with more fun and greater control.

If your passion is drag racing, or if your car frequently finds itself in bumper to bumper traffic, then you might want to consider keeping things automatic to save yourself the issues associated with the wear and hassle of clutching in stop and go. If you are looking for a compromise, then some of the semi-automatic transmissions available today can be retrofitted to pretty much any muscle car, giving you the ability to shift when you want to shift, or let the computer take over when you enter heavier traffic.

Gas prices are $3/gallon, wait no $4/gallon, wait maybe even as high as $5/gallon? You''ve got to be kidding me. Saving gas is important, but lots of drivers want both fuel economy as well as maybe a little bit of fun.

By Brian Knapp

Gas prices are $3/gallon, wait no $4/gallon, wait maybe even as high as $5/gallon? You'’ve got to be kidding me. When I started driving it was only $1/gallon and that wasn'’t all that long ago at all. We can blame politics, war, economics, or any number of things, but if you'’re like me you want relief now. Higher fuel efficiency can'’t come fast enough.

Of course, not everyone wants to drive a tiny little Prius. Lots of drivers want both fuel economy as well as maybe a little bit of fun. Of course, if you drive a sports car, then you should get ready to spend a lots on gas. Most of the time fast cars means terrible fuel economy.

For most of us, there is no way we can justify driving a fast, sexy car like a Camaro or Mustang. For the average Joe, it just makes more sense to drive something like a Honda Civic. The Civic provides much better gas mileage than the average sports car. Yet why do people still drool and save money to buy a sports car? Perhaps they lust for speed, but then again, if the speed limits on most highways is 65 miles per hour or maybe 75 miles per hour, having a vehicle that can go up to 150-200 m.p.h. just doesn'’t make a whole lot of sense does it?

In the last few years a technology known as Hybrid technology is being uses more to create energy efficient automobiles. These cars are designed to be light, intelligent, and economical. They utilize a combination of both a gas and electric engines to maximize fuel efficiently.

Most hybrid vehicles are designed for city use driving. Where vehicles in the past would get 25-35 miles per gallon in the city, vehicles like the Toyota Prius get an astounding 48 m.p.g. in the city and 45 m.p.g. on the highway. At a time where gas prices are spiraling out of control, doubling your vehicle’’s fuel efficiency is a great way to save some money.

The major complaint of course with the Prius and hybrid vehicles in general is that their engine, is small and slow. It’’s not so bad to drive in the city, but getting up to speed on the highway takes a while. Nobody in their right mind would declare the Prius to be sporty by any stretch of the word.

However, car manufacturers today are now opening up a new line of hybrid cars. A kind of hybrid sports car. These hybrid cars are designed to achieve high amounts of speed but at the same time, take advantage of fuel saving hybrid technology.

Probably the first big hybrid sports car could surprisingly come from Chevrolet. It is called the Chevy Volt. It’’s a mostly electric car designed to run for a whole 40 miles without using any gas at all. After that, the vehicle becomes a gas/electric hybrid. Since the average person only drives about 40 miles a day, the vehicle could run most days purely on electricity. Chevrolet estimates that the vehicle could average about 150 miles per gallon. Yet, at the same time the Chevy Volt looks quite sporty. No word has come from Chevrolet about how fast the Volt will go and what kind of horsepower it will achieve, but it will be a big step forward for the hybrid sports car for sure.

Harley-Davidsons are the most wanted motorcycles on the US market. The problem is though that because of their high price and their characteristics motorcycle insurance for these bikes is pretty expensive. In this article, I try to help you get some facts right on Harley-Davidson bike insurance.

By Rudy Van Lancker

Because Harley Davidson Motorcycles tend to be the upper end of bikes, they are obviously more expensive. And for this reason, they are more expensive to insure. Luckily for riders, the Harley Davidson name is big enough to carry some leverage. Groups, clubs and organizations are formed and subsequently insurance companies vie for the opportunity to service their members. Often times, this allows the Harley rider to benefit from discounts.

Further, buying a Harley Davidson motorcycle puts the owner in an enviable position as Harley Davidson USA provides bike insurance. This is a unique concept totally benefiting the insured since the representatives of Harley-Davidson Insurance Services are usually H-D owners themselves. Everything is specific to the Harley Davidson motorcycle. Generic insurance companies do not necessarily offer the same coverage as H-D since they are not totally familiar with the custom aspects of the motorcycle. Even the H-D MotorClothes apparel might be eligible for insurance.

While H-D riders are large in numbers and tend to be more mature individuals, which would lead one to think that insurance should be cheaper, there are several points that impact the cost of Harley Davidson motorcycle insurance.

- H-D motorcycles are hugely appealing to thieves so many bikes are stolen and stripped of their parts. Very few are recovered when the thieves remove the identification from the bikes.

- Because of the bike’’s higher purchase price, the owner may be more inclined to lodge a claim than if the bike was less expensive.

- The high initial price tag means the motorbikes are more expensive to repair.

- Some Harleys are considered classics since the company has been producing motorbikes for over one hundred years and many models are no longer in production.

- Many owners finance their Harley Davidson purchases and as a result the lender will require comprehensive on the insurance policy causing the premium to be higher.

- Accessories and customization will affect the Harley Davidson insurance premium. The more “add-ons”, the higher the insurance premium.

- Since there is no official blue book (like with cars), H-D values are sometimes arbitrary with insurance companies. This means that “Agreed Upon Values” can be significantly higher or lower depending on the insurer.

- Some companies offer roadside assistance free while others charge.

- Extra insurance will be required to cover bodily injury and replacement of the Harley if the motorcycle driver is hit by an uninsured or underinsured motorist.

- Unlike cars where everyone in the car is covered by the insurance policy, Harley Davidson motorcycle insurance will include added costs associated with passenger coverage.

In summary, before purchasing a Harley Davidson motorcycle, it is probably worthwhile to inquire about insurance in order to determine what you can afford.

A look at the effects of Co2 emissions on the cost of running a car, how the government are encouaraging people to think more carefully about what cars they purchase and what car manufacturers are doing to help.

By Catherine Harvey

Thanks to their efficient dynamics programme, BMW have been declared the cleanest premium cars. Research has been conducted into Co2 emissions across the industry and data shows that this particular manufacturer have made the biggest improvements in environmentally friendly vehicles that maintain excellent performance.

Working on averages for the first half of 2008, BMW were found to be emitting an average 161.64g/km. Compare this to the 177g/km from Audi and 192g/km from Mercedes, this is a pretty good standard. BMW’’s improvements have shown to equal 11.34 percent whereas Lexus showed only a 2.14 percent improvement and Jaguar a pretty poor 2.04 percent.

An average output of 161.64g/km is a good average but by no means typical. The BMW 1 Series 118d emits a mere 119g/km, bringing it under the 120g/km that is required to avoid the London Congestion Charge. With 143hp this makes it the top performing car in such a low emissions category. The congestion charge was introduced to encourage people to purchase cars that were more eco-friendly. It currently stands at 8 pounds per trip but the Government have plans to increase this to 25 pounds for the extreme gas guzzlers.

Some researchers have claimed that driving a car that has low emissions can save you up to 400 pounds per year. This is surely changeable. Cheaper road tax, freedom from congestion charges and lower fuel costs all mean financial savings.

Co2 emissions are worked out by putting a car on a rolling road. Varying road conditions are simulated and the Co2 emitted is measured in grams per kilometre. This doesn'’t take into account car weight or drag and is therefore not entirely accurate but at the moment, it’’s the best thing we have.

The general thinking is that the larger the size of the engine, the higher the emission levels will be. More oxygen is needed to burn more fuel to provide the car with the extra power needed for it’’s bigger engine. But people still demand powerful cars with bigger engines. They like the luxury that this brings but it also comes with a high price, not just in fuel but to the environment. So, the onus is on car manufacturers to come up with the most powerful engine possible that releases the least pollution.

This is where BMW have been working hard. They are responsible for 48% of the Co2 reduction in the car industry o
