From inexpensive baubles to family heirlooms, jewelry reflects new trends and the cherished moments of a woman’’s life. Careless treatment of any kind of jewelry, however, shortens its life, value and beauty. Careful cleaning of jewelry extends the wear and value of a collection.

Gemstones
Gemstones are a popular choice for jewelry aficionados because of their beauty. They are also some of the most durable choices for jewelry. Still, care and maintenance are important factors to maintaining their good looks and value. Some gemstones such as sapphires, rubies and other single-crystal gems can be cleaned with a precise mixture of ammonia and water to remove any film that may be present and to restore shine to the stone. Gentle soap and warm water may also provide a safe mixture to clean specific gemstones. If a piece of gemstone jewelry needs extra cleaning, it may be feasible to employ the use of a soft toothbrush to scrub behind the stone.

When it comes to ultrasonic cleaners, be very selective. Not all gemstones can be safely cleaned using this method. Opaque gemstones such as lapis lazuli, turquoise or malachite should never be cleaned with ammonia or an ultrasonic cleaner. These stones can absorb chemicals or soap, resulting in discoloration, due to the porous makeup of these gems. Instead, these gemstones should be wiped with a moist cloth.

To avoid scratching a gemstone or another softer stone near it, keep all jewelry separate from one another. Also, remember that gemstones are often harder than the metal it has been set it. Gems can scratch the finish on gold, silver or platinum.

Diamonds
The hardest substance known to man, diamonds, need special care as they are some of the most often-worn jewelry. Lotions, styling products, and the grime accrued from daily wear can leave a diamond looking dull and lifeless. Avoid waiting too long in between cleanings to decrease the buildup of adverse materials.

Diamonds may be hard but they should not be cleaned with just any cleaner available. For diamonds in need of a really good cleaning, a professional ultrasonic cleaning is often necessary to remove encrusted dirt. However, the method should not be used on fragile settings without having been inspected by your jeweler, as ultrasonic cleaners may shake loose stones from their mounting.

A safe and gentle method for cleaning diamonds starts with soaking the piece in a formula of three parts water to one part ammonia and a tiny drop of mild liquid detergent such as Ivory. Use a soft brush to remove dirt. Do not use a stiff bristled brush as this will scratch the ring’’s metal setting. Rinse the diamond thoroughly in warm water and follow up with a lint-free cloth to dry the piece.

Store diamonds in a fabric-lined jewelry case or in a box with separate compartments. Diamonds may also be wrapped individually in tissue paper and stored in a box. Do not store diamonds with other jewelry in a drawer or jewelry case. This can result in scratching of other jewelry. Perhaps most importantly, avoid leaving a diamond ring on the rim of a sink where it may slip down the drain.

Pearls
Pearls are more fragile than most other gemstones. They should be handled gently to keep them in the best condition. Most of today’’s pearls are cultured pearls. That means they have been created by the initiation of humans who place a bead or other object into an oyster. The oyster then coats the bead with nacre, the patina that gives pearls their much-loved appearance. The thickness of nacre dictates the quality and durability of the pearl.

An excellent rule of thumb to maintain the beauty and value of your pearls is: your pearls should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off when dressing. To maintain the luster of a pearl, avoid applying hand creams or lotions while wearing a pearl. Also, put a pearl on after using hairspray, makeup or perfume. When cleaning a pearl, use mild soap mixed in warm water. Solutions such as ammonia or harsh detergents will damage a pearl, as can an ultrasonic cleaner.

Because pearls can scratch easily, store them separately from other pieces of jewelry. Pearls may also be kept in a soft bag made of chamois for safe storage. It’’s a good idea to have pearl necklaces restrung from time to time to ensure the silk or nylon cord connecting them is in good shape.

For those of us who were fans of the Naked Gun movie trilogy, Priscilla Presley, wife of the King, went from ''80s comic beauty to a tragic beauty train wreck as the oldest contestant ever to appear on the reality TV hit, Dancing with the Stars.

By Ann Knapp

For those of us who were fans of the Naked Gun movie trilogy, Priscilla Presley, wife of the King, went from ‘’80s comic beauty to a tragic beauty train wreck as the oldest contestant ever to appear on the reality TV hit, Dancing with the Stars. It is heartbreaking to see someone, who probably would have aged very gracefully by nature, have such a bad experience with plastic surgery, exposing her to additional
unavoidable criticism.

Many celebrities like Presley, including Tara Reid, Kenny Rogers and Joan Rivers, have fallen victim to bad plastic surgery. With celebrity tabloids criticizing each and every beauty flaw from cellulite, to wrinkles to weight gain, the pressure to perfect each nook and cranny - no matter the risk to your health, wellness or appearance - remains intense.
Although celebrities continue to feel pressure to look good, there are safer, modern day advances in beauty laser technology that do not require going under the knife. These alternatives yield great results with little if any downtime. And, even though your bad beauty photos may never grace the cover of the National Enquirer, it’’s always a great confidence boost when you look and feel your best.

For those you who might be considering a facelift, there are safer laser treatments available that smooth wrinkles and rejuvenate skin. Technology has responded to this renewed interest in looking and feeling healthier and younger, led by tremendous advances in laser technology. Now, with a combination of light, heat and radiofrequency waves, major national aesthetic laser treatment clinics are helping women and men experience a virtual face lift without surgery, scaring, downtime or permanent face-altering tragedy. These safer modern-day treatments produce excellent results without the risk living the rest of your life in hiding because of a botched plastic surgery experience.

The newest capability in virtual facelifts comes in the form of a treatment called skin tightening. This non-invasive procedure helps remove wrinkles, tighten the skin and improve skin laxity on the neck and face. Laser-based skin tightening boosts production of collagen that fills in wrinkles at the jaw line; along the brow line; and around the eyes, mouth and cheeks. It’’s a much more comfortable process than injections of foreign materials like Botox or Restylane, yet generates similar results. It can make wrinkles in the forehead disappear; helping to lift the brow line as well as iron out dreaded Crow’’s feet. It uses a natural method to restore young-looking skin.

To complement the benefits of skin tightening, there is also a treatment that can help reduce the slink flaws caused by sun damage or acne, such as age spots and scarring. A treatment called Affirm uses fractional laser technology to smooth both scars and wrinkles, while evening out any uneven skin tone. This helps prefect the overall appearance of the skin, leaving you with an even-toned, flawless appearance.

The technology used in skin tightening treatments like skin tightening is also used in devices for skin rejuvenation in FotoFacial treatments. When a FotoFacial treatment is followed by microdermabrasion every two weeks, skin irregularities begin disappearing and the process stimulates production of new collagen. The result is reduction of fine wrinkles, more even skin tone and the creation of a more youthful, healthier appearance.

All across the country, people have found a way to take advantage of new, safer ways to look younger and healthier without enduring the pain associated with other methods, nor surgery - once the only means offered for improvement of wrinkles and skin tightening. In fact, a major national aesthetic laser treatment clinic reports it has completed more than 2.5 million treatments over the past six years at more than 220 clinics throughout the United States. These procedures are growing in popularity as an alternative option to plastic surgery.

As in other aspects of health care, technology now makes it possible to take better care of our appearance in a far less disruptive way than has been available previously. Often, the ability to look younger and fitter longer can lead to happier, more productive lives. Be a smart patient, do your homework and weigh your options. There are many alternative, aside from surgery, that can glean very desirable results.
In the 21st century, Americans understand what truly is most important - not our gadgets but our well-being, both physical and psychological. Keeping our bodies in prime shape on the surface may encourage us to pay more attention to other aspects of our health. We all want to be more appealing individuals and more confident personalities with more healthful lifestyles. The new, safer laser technology can enable us to enjoy the kind of life that we all deserve.

Split ends can cause hair to look brittle and damaged. There are several tips to take in the prevention of split ends.

By Kevin Pederson

There are many causes for split-ends. One of the main causes for split ends is the amount of time an individual goes in-between hair cuts. If an individual waits too long between hair trims then the individuals tresses may become dry or brittle due to split-end damage. Other typical causes for split ends are vigorous brushing, coloring, perming, brushing hair when wet and the use of heat appliances. These are the most common ways in which the ends of the hair become split.

When treating split ends it is recommended by beauty experts to cut off the damaged fiber of the split end. Many people do not want to cut off their long locks so another way for treating split ends is to use a hair treatment, such as hot oil, at least once a week. A hair treatment is designed to repair hair that is dry or damaged. This way an individual can treat split-ends without having to cut their lovely tresses.

There are many ways to prevent thsi problem. Split ends prevention begins with routine hair-care. When preventing split ends an individual should use a shampoo or conditioner that contains hair thickeners. Another way in which split ends prevention occurs is when an individual squeezes the access water from the hair with an absorbent towel. When an individual rubs their wet tresses with a towel this can cause hair end damage. Another good hair care tip is to use a leave in conditioner that adds moisture to hair. It is also very important to limit the use of curling irons, hair dryers and other heart appliances.

It is recommended that people limit how often they perm or color treat their hair. For healthy, shiny looking locks an individual should receive a hair cut every six weeks.

Once an individual knows how to treat and prevent split ends then the individual will notice a dramatic change in the health of their hair. Hair that does not contain split ends looks shinier, fuller and healthier. It is important to take care of your hair on a daily basis. If you have split ends it is recommended to receive a hair cut and then to take preventive measures. This will allow us to have a future free of split end damage.

Our hair is a major part of our appearance and personality. It is very important to keep hair healthily, this ensures that we are always looking are best. Split ends may be here today but gone tomorrow.

Luxury watches have a long and colorful history. The legendary Swiss watchmakers date back to the 16th century when Huguenots, followers of John Calvin, fled persecution in France for the safety of the Swiss Alps near Geneva.

By Jerry Work

Luxury watches today are as functional as they are stylish and beautiful. They are valued as collectibles, status symbols, and art. Some luxury watch brands like Rolex are household names but some of the most luxurious are all but unknown to the average person. And there are dozens of fine luxury watchmakers, in Switzerland, France and elsewhere, all of whom make watches worth the investment.

A luxury watch is a work of art and a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Some luxury watches have 800 or more components and are still hand-assembled. At the low end, luxury watches sell for about $1,000. Many luxury watches have a price tag of 30 times that amount or more, a few sell for close to a million dollars.

Collecting Luxury Watches

A beginning collector drawn to luxury watches may be overwhelmed by the variety of choices from the simply elegant to the stunningly beautiful and multi-faceted functions available in fine timepieces made by dozens of reputable makers.

A sound bit of advice to anyone interested in adding a luxury watch to one’’s collection is to study the watches and the companies before buying one on impulse. There are several factors to consider when purchasing a luxury watch, especially if it is being purchased, in part, as an investment.

The reputation of the brand is important. Rather than relying solely on a salesperson, talk to people who own luxury watches, study information available about the watchmakers and their watches, and find out what dealers and collectors are saying about watches on Internet forum sites.

Luxury Watches with Added Value

Many watch connoisseurs place high value on the number of complications a watch has. Complications are mechanical functions other than basic time telling like perpetual calendars, second time zone, or lunar phases. Generally speaking the more complications a watch has, the more valuable it is.

Other watch enthusiasts are interested in the beauty or style of the device. These watch buyers look for sleek elegant designs and ornamentation like diamonds or other gemstones.

Other details to consider when purchasing a luxury watch that can increase its value over time are its rareness, whether it is a limited or special edition, its warranty, and, in the case of previously owned watches, if its provenance can be traced.

Subtle Differences Between Luxury Watch Brands

With those basic tips in mind, here are a few things to know about some luxury watch brands. Rolex and Cartier are the two best-known brands and both make fine watches in a wide range of prices. The best-known brands are not always the most desired by collectors. In terms of status and overall quality, there are several luxury watches valuable to connoisseurs and aficionados.

Luxury Watches for Yachtsman, Contact Sports, and Other Special Interests

Two of the top Swiss-made watches are Patek Philippe and Bregeut. Both companies make exquisite watches with multiple complications and jewels. Patek Philippe holds the record in number of complications. In 1989, they created a pocket watch in honor of their 150th anniversary with 33 complications including a celestial chart with 2,800 stars. Other luxury watchmakers with solid reputations include Piaget and Bulgari of Italy.

Some watches are designed for special interest markets. Breitling is favored by pilots for their aeronautic designs. Glycine’’s Airman 7 watches can display up to four time zones, perfect for travelers. Corum’’s Admirals'’ Cup Tide 44 measures the force of the tide and currents based on the moon’’s phase making it perfect for yachtsmen. And for those who play contact sports, Jaeger’’s Reverso watches are made so that the face can be flipped over.

The fact that diamonds are a hard substance is something which may make individuals feel that they can treat these beautiful gemstones in a manner which is not as cautious as it should be.

By James Greene

The fact that diamonds are a hard substance is something which may make individuals feel that they can treat these beautiful gemstones in a manner which is not as cautious as it should be. This is not the case as even though diamonds are quite strong, they can still endure mishaps as a result of the owners thereof not properly caring for them. The following will highlight a few different ways in which diamond owners can properly care for these fabulous gemstones.

Engage in Constant Cleaning to Keep Diamonds Looking Their Best

Diamonds are gems which will look their best if they are cleaned at frequent intervals. How often one cleans their jewels will depend on a few different factors which include frequency of use, overall treatment of the stone and environment in which the gem is worn. Some diamonds will need to be cleaned more frequently than others to make them look their absolute best. Diamond owners can clean their stones at home by using store bought solution or detergent mixed with water. They should also consider having these exquisite items cleaned by a professional jeweler every once in a while as well since the jewelry stores have the top of the line cleaning equipment to really make the gems sparkle.

Store Your Diamonds in a Proper Place

Diamonds are an item which should be stored in a safe place. Keeping one’’s jewelry in a well-made jewelry box or armoire will help to keep the item in tip top shape. For those who do not wear their diamonds as often and may have a fairly expensive object, they might consider storing their diamond in a safety deposit box or other type of secure location. The important thing is to ensure that the diamond is safely stored where it will not get damaged, lost or stolen.

Occasional Trips to the Jeweler to Ensure Diamond is Properly Secured

Another tip with regard to properly caring for your diamond is to make occasional trips to your jeweler so that he/she may look over the jewelry to ensure that the diamond is securely in place. Since many diamonds are not only expensive items but sentimental as well, having that peace of mind in place by knowing the item is properly secured is a priceless thing. It is well worth a an hour or so of one’’s time to have the piece of jewelry looked over by a professional in the field.

Treat Your Diamond with General Care

Lastly, one who owns a diamond-laden object should treat that item with care. Think twice before engaging in sports or heavy household duties while wearing the piece of jewelry and play it safe by not wearing it at all. Although diamonds are gems which are more of the durable type, these stones should be treated with well-deserved respect and appreciation.

Old Cut Diamonds - Should They Be Re-Cut to Modern Brilliant Cuts?

Some individuals who possess old cut diamonds wonder whether or not they should have the stones re-cut in order to resemble the modern brilliant cuts.

By James Greene

Diamonds come in a variety of shapes, styles and colors. These gorgeous gemstones are each unique in their own way. From antique diamonds to modern ones, there are a variety of gemstones to choose from when selecting a piece of jewelry. One type of diamond which many people still cherish to this day is the old cut diamond. Old cut diamonds are antique stones which were cut in a simple yet elegant manner.

When compared with the modern brilliant cuts of today, old cut diamonds shone with beauty regardless of their simplicity. However, some individuals who possess old cut diamonds wonder whether or not they should have the stones re-cut in order to resemble the modern brilliant cuts.

Why Some Individuals May Want Their Old Cuts Turned Into Modern Cuts

There are a few different reasons why diamond owners may want their old cut diamonds reshaped so that they become modern brilliant cuts. The first reason is to make their diamonds be more modern. This is an obvious answer to why one would want to alter their diamond in this way. They may feel as if their diamond will be better looking if it were in keeping with the times and not some piece of jewelry which was too in touch with the past.

Another reason why someone may wish to have their old cut diamonds crafted into modern brilliant cuts is in the case of an engagement ring. Those who may be giving their mother or grandmother’’s engagement ring to their future bride may wish to do so for sentimental reasons yet feel that something a bit more modern might be a little more suitable for their loved one.

Lastly, one who wants to have their old cut diamonds turned into modern brilliant cut diamonds may be trying to rid the diamond of certain blemishes. An individual who finds an antique diamond that they like, despite the presence of a crack or line through the stone or poor cut, may feel that they can make the diamond more perfect by having it re-cut into a modern brilliant style. By doing so, they are getting rid of the blemish and making their gemstone more modern all at the same time.

Should This Process Be Undertaken?

When trying to answer the question of whether or not to re-cut an old cut diamond into a modern brilliant one, it is important to look at the underlying reason behind doing so. Since the diamond ultimately has its own favorable characteristics which make it a special stone and re-cutting the diamond may in fact make matters worse, the only reason one should really re-cut their stone is if there is a blemish present within the diamond itself. Any other reason for doing so may in fact make the diamond less attractive and less desirable in the end. Therefore, although it is a personal choice, it is often a wise decision to re-cut a stone only after careful consideration and knowing that the finished product may come out not as good as the original item.

Crystals are very popular items of jewelry, interior decor and gifts due to their natural beauty, colors and light manipulating ability. Crystals also possess powers of healing and other mystical characteristics.

By John Wright

Throughout history people have attached a special importance to those things out of the ordinary. The rarer and more unique the item, the higher its value. That value is often more than just monetary, with many objects and substances bestowed with magical, superstitious or supernatural powers. Crystals, with their spellbinding ability to reflect and refract light of different colors, have long been viewed as being more than just beautiful objects; they are believed to have certain powers of healing and magic.

Types of Crystals and their Uses

While many people think of crystals as the normal colorless quartz crystals, actually most precious and semi-precious gemstones are crystals in their own right. Crystals can also been grown from salt and sugar - glass crystals being a prominent form of man-made crystal. Because of their beauty and powers, crystals have become very popular jewelry items. Crystal beads can be strung to form an attractive crystal necklace, crystal bracelet or set of crystal earrings. Many people collect crystal figurines, such as crystal angel figurines, crystal animal figurines and so on. Crystal is also a very popular material for interior decor and is often used for glasses, dishes, bowls, windows, chandeliers, candle holders other ornamental and functional household objects. Crystals are also widely used in industry.

Crystals and their Powers

The powers of crystals are believed to be linked to several areas. Most crystals are deemed to have positive influences, and crystals of different substances can be more beneficial to some people than others. Central to this is the idea that crystals and astrology are linked, so that some crystals will bestow a benefit to those born under a certain zodiac sign. Other crystal powers are more universal, such as their healing or purification qualities. Healing crystals, as they are known, are most commonly worn as jewelry or hung above windows or doorways in the house. They are also often found hanging from the rear view mirrors in vehicles. Because of their versatility, crystal jewelry makes the perfect gift, especially something like a crystal bead bracelet or crystal jewelry necklace.

Here are some of the main powers of certain popular types of crystals:

Rose Quartz: love
Aquamarine: protection, healing and courage
Garnet: commitment, passion, devotion and health
Sapphire: prosperity, happiness and fulfillment
Diamond: attunement and relaxation
Amethyst: peace and strength
Emerald: love, memory, and intelligence
Ruby: energy and wisdom

The great thing about crystals is that many of them are inexpensive despite the benefits they can potential bestow upon their owner. The most prized power crystal, the Amethyst, is quite cheap and can be bought by anyone. Of course, crystal figurines and other collectible crystal art forms can range from inexpensive to priceless, as can gemstones, depending on the brand, artisan, quality, size and perfection of the crystal itself. In particular, handmade crystal jewelry can be quite valuable. Therefore crystals can be an astute investment as well as a provider of mystical and healing powers - so choose your crystal carefully and you will be rewarded with good fortune!

By Amy Nutt

Until recently cosmetic procedures designed to combat scars, fine lines, deep wrinkles and sun damage worked by treating the outer layer of facial skin. The traditional resurfacing lasers used in these treatments caused discomfort, lengthy recovery times and a number of risks associated with aggressive skin resurfacing. Now a newly developed technology called Portrait Plasma Skin Regeneration,PSR or Plasma Lift, is changing the face of cosmetic procedures, literally.

What Is Portrait Plasma Skin Regeneration?

Portrait PSR is a non-laser technique that provides the same regeneration and resurfacing results without the safety concerns of CO2 or Erbium lasers. It is unique in that it uses activated nitrogen plasma to remove and regenerate damaged skin.

Able to be used on a variety of skin types Portrait PSR transfers heat energy in a revolutionary non-contact treatment. This technique works on the deep layers of your skin while preserving the important outer layer, which acts as a natural dressing while your new skin regenerates. By modifying the collagen beneath the surface Portrait PSR not only provides immediate improvement to skin texture and elasticity but continues to work over the long term with claimed noticeable results for up to one year.

What Can I Expect From Portrait PSR?

Portrait PSR is a flexible treatment. It can be used to target specific trouble areas such as around the eyes and on the cheeks or it can be used over the entire face for a more vibrant and smooth skin appearance. It works on deep wrinkles, improves skin tone, texture and elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines and scarring.

A full-face treatment will take about 20 minutes with localized treatments ranging from 5-10 minutes. You will be required to apply a topical anesthetic or possibly a small injection of anesthesia will be administered by your physician prior to the procedure. Resembling a laser the Portrait PSR tool will then direct condensed gas into the layers of your skin stimulating new collagen production. A sensation of heat will be felt throughout the treatment. Several days after the procedure your new skin will emerge and the old skin will shed. Healing time is minimal.

You can choose between multiple low level treatments or a single higher-level treatment depending on your skin issues and desired effect.Full recovery time ranges from 10 days to 2 weeks.

How Is Portrait PSR Different From Other Facial Treatments?

Traditionally facial skin resurfacing had to be performed by lasers. These lasers use non-specific light radiation to gently burn away and regenerate skin. Given the aggressive nature of these treatments side effects such as heat charring and other complications can occur. As the outer layer of skin is removed during laser resurfacing there is extended downtime and significant discomfort for the patient.

Portrait PSR instead works on the underlying skin leaving the important outer layer intact. By using nitrogen gas instead of light radiation there is no risk of charring and minimal to no discomfort during the procedure. This combination reduces patient downtime considerably.

Who Is This Treatment For?

*	Anyone who is considering laser surgery and/or plastic surgery are ideal candidates for Portrait PSR.
*	People who are looking to improve the appearance of aging skin and want to turn the clock back on wrinkles and sunspots.
*	Individuals who wish to regain lost skin elasticity and youthful texture.
*	Anyone who wants to remove discoloration and reduce the appearance of acne scars.

By Amy Nutt

Up until about fifteen to twenty years ago, young children needing glasses would refuse to wear them because it looked like the glasses were swallowing up their face. All that was really available for small faces were these plastic frames with big thick rims. Those kids that could get by with not wearing their glasses all of the time would take them off once they got to school so other children wouldn'’t make fun of them. This is despite the fact that having trouble seeing the chalkboard was the main reason for the glasses in the first place. Then there were those kids who had to wear them all of the time because they couldn'’t see without them. Those were usually the children having to endure names such as “four eyes” from various other kids throughout the day.

Now when we look at a classroom full of children, we find that many of them are wearing eyeglasses. We may even find that those kids that were making fun of other children for wearing huge glasses are now adults who have to have them themselves. Such conditions as nearsightedness and farsightedness do not spare many individuals. Fortunately, sight screenings at school help spot these conditions before they can really have a toll on a child’’s schoolwork. What results is that child having to have glasses, but, fortunately, getting glasses nowadays is not as painful as it used to be.

Styling

Eyeglasses can be considered cool if they fit properly. Many eyeglass distributors offer children’’s eyeglasses so that your child has a perfectly proportioned pair of eyeglasses on his or her face. It isn'’t like twenty years ago when the options were limited because not as many children were being diagnosed with eye conditions. Now large designer companies are making eyeglasses for kids that look fantastic on them. You just have to be mindful of what looks best on your child or they could be made fun of for their glasses not looking right on them.

Things to take into consideration:

The size of your child’’s face
The shape of your child’’s face
The shape of the glasses being tried
The size of the glasses being tried

Your child’’s face shape and size is going to be a huge determining factor in what size and shape of glasses they wear. There are frames that are square, round, and oval. You can try all of these to see which looks best. Frames are also made out of both wire metal and plastic, so you can also see which looks best. Some are even rimless, which can give the illusion that your child is not wearing glasses.

If your child has very bad eyesight, then you can see about having thinner lenses placed within the frame. Technology is now available that allows you to have the lenses thinned without hampering the prescription. This eliminates the illusion that your child is looking through the bottom of a glass soda bottle.

Glasses are cool

If you take into consideration shape, size, and lens thinning options, then your child is going to look really great in his or her new glasses. It isn'’t so much of a curse as it used to be, but it can be if the glasses are not the right fit. By having the right fit, other kids are either going to tell your child that they like their glasses or they'’re not really going to care that the glasses are even there. Most importantly, a good fit is also going to ensure that your child is going to be able to see everything that needs to be seen.

Is it really worth it to pay for expensive shoes?

By Matt Chang

Is it true that the more expensive a pair of shoes is, the better is the quality and the more comfortable it will be? Are designer shoes worth the additional money that you could have otherwise spent on other items? Let’’s take a look at designer shoes and why they are more expensive.

What contributes to the price of a pair of shoes?

1. Material

The more expensive the material used, the pricier will be the pair of shoes. Leathers or specialty materials such as will play a part in establishing the final price of a pair of shoes. In general, the more expensive the materials used to make the shoe, the more it will cost. When you are looking at shoes next time, take a pair of cheap shoes, and pair them up against something in the $100 dollar range. The differences will be striking. You will probably notice that the materials in the expensive shoe revolve around natural materials, and will feel luxurious. The cheap shoe will probably be made with synthetic materials, and look slightly uneven, and may be off shaped a bit. You may see defects in the workmanship as well.

2. Manufacturing Costs, Designer Cost & Research

The more research that is done on the pair of shoes, the pricier it will be. For example, if the amount of money spent on researching a pair of durable and comfy shoes is high, most probably, the price of that pair of shoes is high too. Research also includes design. When you look at “designer” shoes, the word comes from the fact that there is someone who creates the look. The more sought after the designer, and the more in demand their style, the more the shoes will cost. This part is purely a supply demand issue. Great designers can demand high prices.

The cost of manufacturing the pair of shoes also plays a part in establishing the price of the shoes. If the shoes are made with limited stocks, the price would be higher. Other special techniques such as handcrafting techniques also contribute a part in the price of the shoes.

3. Branding

The more established a brand is, the pricier the pair of shoes would be. This goes back to the point that the higher the demand, the higher the cost.

This brings us back to our original question. Is a designer pair of shoes worth the money? The answer is yes and no. If you are looking at a shoe that is extremely high priced because everyone wants one, then you need to use common sense and realize that part of the mark up is due to the demand. The yes part to the answer is that a well made shoe with good materials, and one that fits well on your feet is worth the money. And that price needs to be relative to the style, and design.

In general, the better pair of shoes will be such that you can take it to a shoe repair company and have it re soled over and over, and have the leather re finished over and over. If you have a pair that you take care of, over time you will actually come out ahead. How many cheap pairs of shoes do you go through in a year? What if you just purchased 1-2 pairs of well made shoes a year?

Lastly, with the advent of online companies, and outlet stores, you can get well made shoes at more than half off the list price. At the end of the day, a well made shoe is worth a purchase because it will fit you better, wear better, and last longer. You can also find well made shoes at discount prices, making the decision even easier.

By Ann Knapp

Through my years as an expert on laser hair removal, I have seen a definite increase in the amount of people who are now more aware of body hair issues. Women come in to my clinic all the time and ask about how they can get rid of their unibrow or bikini line. In fact, the collective conscious has changed dramatically over time as to what makes a woman beautiful.

If you take a quick look at history, the definition of beauty has developed significantly over the years. It is said that you can trace the public understanding of body image through the art work of luminaries such as Reubens and Renoir. In their depictions in the 17th and 19th century, women are full-figured and are not seen as what is thought of today as being attractive. Now women shown in movies and magazines are generally skinny and lack significant definition.

Even cultural differences exist around the world as to what defines beauty. For example there is a small tribe in Burma, called the Padaung, where women at a young age have rings put around their neck. As they become older, more rings are put around their neck, and their neck stretches. In the Paduang culture this is a sign of beauty. Even closer to home, if you go to the beaches of the French Riviera, you will see women with hairy arm pits. In the French culture, women who have arm pit hair are accepted.

In the United States, a general beauty custom is that women are not to have visible hair on their body. Besides the hair on top of their head, women with excessive hair on their legs, arms or face are seen as not properly groomed and generally unfeminine. However, it is not as if American women have developed a gene that makes us immune to unwanted hair. While that would be fantastic, there are realistic options to remove hair.

As we all know, hair removal can be a pain-staking process and can cost a lot of money over time. In fact, a major national hair removal center recently conducted a study with Zoomerang that found women spend more than $10,000 on hair removal products and services over the course of their lifetime. Survey respondents also reported they will spend more than 58.4 days removing hair from their bodies during their lifetime. Imagine what you could do with all that money and time! The one tried and true treatment that makes hair removal easy, affordable, and painless is laser hair removal, which provides permanent hair reduction.

To understand how laser hair removal works, it is important to understand hair and how it grows. Human hairs are made up of three parts: the bulb at the base of the hair follicle (which produces hair), the shaft and the hair. The bulb and the shaft are embedded beneath the surface of the skin, therefore the hair is the only part visible to the naked eye. The hair growth cycle is comprised of three stages: telogen, catagen and anagen.

At any given time, approximately 30 percent of your hair is in its anagen growth stage, which is the only time the hair is susceptible to laser hair removal treatments. Each laser hair reduction session will permanently damage 30 percent of the hair follicles in the treatment area. Essentially, laser hair removal works by destroying the hair follicle.

The only way to permanently reduce the amount of unwanted hair is to damage the hair follicle to a point where is unable to produce hairs. The hairs that are destroyed with each treatment are destroyed permanently. While patient protocol is determined on a case-by-case basis, on average our center recommends a minimum of six treatments, spread about two months apart per treatment.

Modern laser hair removal is really a marvel of technology and has effectively removed the discomfort that was once associated with laser hair removal and are still associated with some of the older equipment that is out there in non-specialty clinics.

Whether you are looking at laser hair removal as an alternative to your daily shaving ritual or are looking to save money over the long-term, the treatments are easy, fast, and painless. In fact, I even have had patients come in to my office on their lunch hour for a session. Laser hair removal will help to restore your body confidence and will bring you peace-of-mind that you might never have to shave again. And if that is not beautiful, I don'’t know what is!

More than just ornamentation for the body, jewelry has long served as a palette for artistic expression. From Bulgari to Cartier to Harry Winston, the world’’s famous jewelers have created pieces of bejeweled art that have captured the attention of collectors worldwide, as well as the imagination of those who appreciate fine jewelry.

Frederic Boucheron

Acquiring fame as an expert in precious stones, Frederic Boucheron opened his first jewelry salon at the Palais Royal in 1858. The masterful creator of beautiful jewelry, Boucheron also set up shop at the Place Vendome in 1893, which is still in successful operation today. Boucheron branches are also located in Moscow, Japan, London, and the Far East. Historical international expositions included exhibitions of Boucheron’’s pieces, including the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, the 1889 and 1990 Expositions Universelle, and the 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs, all in Paris.

Sotirio Bulgari

Sotirio Bulgari of Greece began his firm in 1879 when he moved to Rome to open his first shop in Via Sistina. Bulgari’’s distinctive style was carried on by his sons after his death in 1932. Bulgari jewelry-lovers admire the firm’’s classical and Renaissance-inspired art, which features colors and patterns found in mosaics. Bulgari is also famous for transforming ancient coins into jewels. Bulgari boutiques grace Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Milan, New York, Paris, Singapore, and Tokyo. In 1998, a Bulgari diamond and colored diamond brooch auctioned at Christie’’s for $1,186,400.

Louis-Francois Cartier

Renowned French jewelry and watch maker, Cartier may have gotten its start in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, but it took it his grandsons Louis, Pierre and Jacques to build Cartier into the world famous empire it is today. Throughout its history, Cartier has undergone continued changes which have made it an international phenomenon. In 1983, the Cartier Museum was initiated; and in 1993, Cartier became a part of the Vendome Luxury Group.

Joseph Chaumet

Official jeweler to Napoleon:Chaumet was originally founded under another name. This jewelry firm captured favor for its grandiose creations and royal clientele including the Empress Josephine and later Empress Marie-Louise. Following the fall of Napoleon, the firm garnered continued acclaim under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Fossin and his son, Jules. Both were artists in their right who captured a spirit of Romanticism in their jeweled creations. In 1889, Joseph Chaumet, a Bordeaux jeweler took over the company and changed its name to Chaumet. The successful change in ownership thrust Chaumet onto the international scene, serving as jeweler to European royal houses and winning copious awards at international exhibitions.

Laurence Graff

Creating jewelry with some of the rarest gems available, Graff Diamonds was founded in London in 1960. The revered firm has handled some of the world’’s most treasured gemstones, including The Idol’’s Eye, The Emperor Maximillian, and The Begum Blue. The jewelry maker’’s glamorous style is a result of its highly skilled in-house craftsmen. In 2002, a pair of Graff diamond and emerald ear-pendants sold at auction for $772,000. The House of Graff has locations in London, New York City, Monte Carlo, Dubai, and Moscow.

Tiffany & Co.

While Tiffany & Co. may have begun as a fancy goods store in the 1800s, by the 1950s Tiffany & Co. had captured its emphasis on the jewelry business. Its most famous pieces were created and sold by the founder’’s son, Louis Comfort Tiffany. However, other esteemed jewelry designers, as well as renowned gemologist George Frederick Kunz were later instrumental in propelling Tiffany & Co. to international jewelry stardom. Today, Tiffany & Co. can be found in more than 100 locations worldwide.

Harry Winston

At only 24 years of age, Harry Winston opened his first jewelry store in New York City. A little more than a decade later, Winston established a company under his own name. Here, he handled such famous diamonds as the Jonker, the Taylor-Burton, the Star of Sierra Leone, and the Vargas. He was also responsible for donating The Hope, The Portuguese and, the Oppenheimer diamonds to the Smithsonian. Known as the “King of Diamonds,” Winston owned nearly one third of all the famous museum diamonds at one time or another. After his father’’s death, Ronald Winston continued the Winston dynasty, expanding into additional markets in Tokyo and Beverly Hills.

While some of the world’’s most famous jewelers have made their mark in history, many local jewelers also carry on this tradition of beauty - fashioning jewelry that delights and commemorates. Whether famous globally or just well-known to a local community, artists in jewels are part of a long legacy - creating today’’s jewelry for tomorrow.

Tried many ways to reduce but none seem to work? Why not give massage a chance to ease your cellulite? Find out if cellulite massage is the cure to your problem.

By Foo Kwong Meng

Like many people you may be on the lookout for treatments and procedures that can assist you in getting rid of unsightly cellulite. As is the case with so many other things in this day and age, there are cellulite treatments and procedures that do work - some that work very well. And, there are others that don'’t work well at all. By way of this article, you are provided a look at cellulite massage. You will be given information about whether or not cellulite massage might work for you.

Another name that commonly is given to cellulite massage is “cellulite suction massage.” The suction reference serves to quite accurate describe how this procedure does work. (It is important to understand how cellulite massage works if you want to further know of its effectiveness.)

Simply, cellulite massage is a procedure in which a device that generates a certain amount of suction on the surface of a person’’s skin is utilized to smooth out the surface of the skin itself, eliminating the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite massage is a fairly new technique when it comes to dealing with and resolving cellulite. In addition, it is important to note that you will not achieve an elimination of your cellulite after only one massage session. Rather, the typical individual has to go through a few sessions before the appearance of cellulite will be significantly reduced.

It is also important for you to understand that cellulite massage is not a permanent solution. By this it is meant that you will have to schedule follow up sessions into the future. Only by doing so will you be able to make sure that the appearance of cellulite is eliminated indefinitely.

In short, cellulite massage can be effective for many people. However, you do need to keep in mind that it is an ongoing procedure. And, as was noted, you will not have immediate results when it comes to this treatment or procedure.

Generally speaking, cellulite massage is one of the more reasonably priced of the cellulite treatments and procedures available today. At the higher end - when it comes to costs - is laser treatment and newly developed ultrasound treatments. At the lower end of the scale are topical creams and herbal and seaweed wraps that assist in fighting cellulite. In short, you absolutely can find a cellulite remedy in your price range and that very well may be cellulite massage.

This article outlines some of the fashion guidelines that women should keep in mind when buying plus size shorts.

By Allen Wright

There’’s no reason why plus size women can'’t wear plus size shorts during the warm months of the year. Too often I see women walking around in hot weather wearing long pants, and I assume it’’s because they'’re self conscious about their legs. But there’’s no reason for that! Flaunt what you'’ve got, and even if you'’re still not comfortable, don'’t turn that into self conscious and uncomfortable. If you think about it logically, lack of sun on your legs may be one of the reasons that you think they stand out.

If you need to ease into the shorts world, start with a fairly neutral pair of khaki plus size shorts that are of average length. Nothing too long or too short. Make sure they have traditional pockets on the back and don'’t taper down the leg. You don'’t want them to be tight around the bottom of the leg opening. You can pair these shorts up with almost anything, like a dressy blouse or a tank top and flip flops. You can dress up or down with them. And most importantly, you'’ll look great and you'’ll be comfortable at the same time.

Be sure and look for material that has some give to it. By that, I mean look for a cotton blend that has some stretchable material weaved into it so that the shorts can more easily move with you. And, as much as it pains me to say it, don'’t be afraid of elastic waistbands in some, but not all, of your shorts. I say some because they'’re very comfortable and practical and can be easily worn with shirts that cover the waistband up. You won'’t always want to wear shirts or blouses that hang out over the top of your shorts, though. There will be situations where you want to tuck a shirt in, and in that case an elastic waistband is not appropriate.

When looking at length, the standard rule is that shorts that fall one inch above your knee are the most flattering. They split the line between too tall and too short, and for most body types, give the best break between the ground and your upper legs. But don'’t take that as a hard and fast rule, because the most important aspect is if they look good or not. If they'’re an inch too high or an inch too low and they look great, then there’’s really not a problem.

There are some very powerful reasons why you should select organic skin care products for yourself. Primarily for your health.

By Peter Clark

An eco-friendly lifestyle is very appealing to many people, for health and other reasons. And some of these reasons apply to skin care products that you may be commonly using now. If you want beautiful, healthy looking skin, a regular skincare routine is necessary. What most people do not realize is that organic skin care products tend to offer many more benefits than regular skin care products, and they'’re good enough to eat.

Why eat? well if you think about it, the skin is extremely absorbent. So if you smear a cream on your skin it will absorb the ingredients of that cream into your body, pretty much as if you ate it.

And believe me, you wouldn'’t want to eat regular mainstream skin care products. Organic skin care products would probably taste bad, but wouldn'’t do you any harm.

Why? Organic skin care products are a great choice for anyone who wants to avoid the potentially dangerous chemicals which can be found in regular skin care products. The average face cream contains chemicals that you have probably never even heard of. Many skin care creams and other facial products contain chemicals which are suspected, or even known, to cause cancer.

Examples are Parabens, Dioxane and “fragrances” which may mean any one or more of hundreds of chemicals. And DEA, MEA and TEA. If you google any of those you'’ll find out a lot more about them, and why you don'’t want to be putting them on your skin.

You will not need to worry about chemicals which may be harmful to your skin when you choose an organic face cream.

Now of course it’’s not quite necessary to eat it, but if you did it wouldn'’t do any damage.

An organic face cream is a great choice for people who have very sensitive skin. While there are skincare products which are designed to suit the needs of people with sensitive skin, there are still some people who find themselves allergic to them. Since organic skin care products are made from natural ingredients, they may be a better fit for people with sensitive skin. Of course, keep in mind that it is always important to check out the ingredients before using any skin care product.

Another one of the reasons that you may want to switch to organic face cream products is because they are known to be much more effective than regular face creams. The main reason is because most of the natural ingredients which can be found in organic skin care products are also known to work as home remedies for treating skin problems. If the skin care products that you currently use are not working, then you may want to try organic skincare products instead.

If you are thinking about using an organic face cream, it is important to do a little bit of research about the product first. Always consider buying from a well known manufacturer of organic skin products. There are many companies which claim that their organic products are made from all natural ingredients, when really only a small percentage is all-natural. Try to look for skincare products which consist of at least 75% organic products.

There is one extremely good company offering highly effective organic skin care products to the consumers of the world, and you'’ve probably never even heard of it before.

There are many people in today''s world are looking for the best weight loss plan that will work for them. Today''s world is vision focused representing the idea that to be beautiful you have to be thin, and this goes for both men and women alike.

By Faye B. Roberts

There are many people in today’’s world are looking for the best weight loss plan that will work for them. Today’’s world is vision focused representing the idea that to be beautiful you have to be thin, and this goes for both men and women alike. So, this puts many people in the world searching for the best weight loss program. For many people the best weight loss plan will be one that allows them to lose weight in the shortest amount of time possible.

There are countless weight loss plans for a person to choose from all claiming to be the most effective, best weight loss program there is. Not all of these will be the best weight loss plans. There are many weight loss supplements, like weight loss pills, that have a variety of negative side effects. Diet pills can cause nausea, loose stool, constipation, dry mouth, trembling, urinary tract infections and other urinary tract disorders, heart palpitations, and even headaches. The best weight loss plan to look for is usually the ones that lead you down a more natural and healthier way of losing unwanted pounds. Surgical intervention is also another quick weight loss method that is most certainly not for everyone. Surgical procedures are usually not done unless a person is in the category of being morbidly obese.

Be judgmental and scrutinize the weight loss plan especially if there are weight loss supplements involved. Make a list of the pro and cons about the program and then make an informed decision. Please just do not jump into a weight loss program with checking out the product, the company, and the ingredients if a weight loss supplement is involved. You also must be fully committed to the weight loss program to succeed with weight loss.

Diets that concentrate on eating only particular types of food are usually a bad idea as well. For instance, the Atkins diet completely cut carbohydrates out of a person’’s daily nutrition. This is a terrible thing to do. You do not want to take any important nutritional supplement out of your diet; rather you will want to limit its intake if anything. It is not a medical fact that being thin makes you healthy. As a matter of fact, that is very far from the truth. However, being obese is in general terrible for any person’’s body. The best weight loss plan should not put your health at risk in any way. The best weight loss program should be the right balance of healthy foods and exercise. A weight loss plan that brings in some sort of balance will surely let a person attain their ideal body mass index.

When finding the best weight loss plan, it is a great idea to seek medical consultation. This should really be done before starting any diet plan to make sure that a particular weight loss plan suit’’s the individual that is involved. The best weight loss program will involve a diet that includes food with all the nutrients in the food pyramid. The best weight loss plan will also involve the proper exercise and rest for your body to work properly. When you body is working properly it will burn excess fats more efficiently and allow you to succeed with weight loss.

By Jerry Work

Think it would be nice to live the celebrity lifestyle. It definitely has its perks, like VIP treatment and red-carpet events. And it’’s hard not to look fabulous when you have photographers and makeup artists who are paid to make you look good.

With dermatologists at their beck and call, you'’d think it would be easy for celebrities to have beautiful, clear skin. But, apparently, they struggle with acne care like the rest of us. There’’s one major difference though when they have a breakout, it could wind up in the news or on the ‘’net.

Here’’s our list of celebs who'’ve been caught with acne:

Victoria Beckham
Some stars admit they'’ve had acne problems, but not Posh Spice. She denies it fiercely. Almost too fiercely. She also claims the media manipulates photos to make her look bad. www.trendhunter.com/trends/posh-victoria-beckham-acne

Paris Hilton
This party girl has talked about her acne, but blames it on a heavy travel schedule. Whatever the reason, this photo is so not hot!
www.hollywoodrag.com/index.php&ACT=35&fid=11&aid=565_brQqDv4UjX9PmmF50Sed&thumb=1&board_id=1

Jessica Alba
Jessica may be showing signs of pregnancy acne here, but she’’s been spotted with acne before baby as well.
www.evilbeetgossip.film.com/2007/12/28/bumpwatch-jessica-alba-2/

Ethan Hawke
A blogger calls this “serious acne.” We'’re not sure it’’s that bad, but Ethan’’s known to have acne problems.
www.evilbeetgossip.film.com/2007/10/13/ethan-hawke-has-some-serious-acne/

Keira Knightley
This down-to-earth beauty freely admits she’’s battled acne for years and sometimes gets as much as 3 to 4 hours of makeup before filming. She’’s also mentioned in interviews that she likes herbal medicines and has found them very helpful. (Hmmm maybe we should introduce her to Oeco) Her “Pirates of the Caribbean” co-stars, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, have also been seen with acne.
www.justjared.buzznet.com/gallery/photos.phpyr=2007&mon=04&evt=rupert_paparazzi&pic=wet-hair-keira-knightley-01.jpg

Drew Barrymore and Tyra Banks might be better at hiding it-that or we haven'’t found the right photos-but they'’ve both had issues with adult acne and have tried various acne treatments and skin care products over the years.

How would YOU like to go through puberty on stage.
Remember these teens the next time you curse about your zits and be glad you don'’t have to deal with heavy acne in front of a global audience. That kind of pressure only adds to the stress and it'’ll only get worse for new, freshman actors with the dawn of HDTV.

Jesse McCartney
Singer and actor Jesse McCartney is a teen heartthrob, but unfortunately, can'’t hide heavy acne in these photos.
www.justjared.buzznet.com/2007/06/28/jesse-mccartney-acne/

Harry Potter Actors
“We had to employ a special effects man to go through every frame clearing up their complexions,” said an insider of the latest Harry Potter movie. All three stars had acne during filming, although only Daniel Radcliffe is shown here.
www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-448199/Shouldnt-Harry-Spotter-Daniel.html

Embarrassing as they are for the stars, these photos show us celebrities are human after all and have the same acne problems. The extra pressure, not to mention all of that heavy stage makeup, only works against them.
